Be the person everybody here can go to.

As our HR Generalist, you'll own the day-to-day people operations for Marias Technology and our retail businesses — recruiting, onboarding, performance review coordination, training logistics, PTO, and being the first person someone comes to when something isn't right. You'll report directly to the President and CEO, which means the work you do is visible and the decisions you weigh in on move.

We're a family-owned business, and that shapes this role more than any job description can. You'll know everyone's name. You'll be the reason a new hire's first week feels welcoming instead of confusing. And when someone has a hard conversation to bring forward, you'll be the one they trust to handle it well.

This is hands-on HR, and we're clear about that

This is an operational role, not a strategic or policy-setting one. Compensation design, payroll administration, benefits strategy, and legal and compliance matters are handled by external resources. That's not a limitation on the job — it's what keeps you focused on people rather than paperwork you'd need a specialist for anyway.

What you will have is real independent judgment. You'll decide how to handle sensitive matters, when something needs to escalate to the President or outside counsel, and how our recruiting and onboarding actually work in practice.

What you'll do

  • Manage full-cycle recruiting for entry-level roles (analysts, testers) and experienced hires (software developers) — posting roles, screening candidates, coordinating interviews, and supporting offer logistics
  • Represent Marias at recruiting fairs and in the community, building relationships and partnerships with local colleges and universities
  • Own new hire onboarding, including paperwork, orientation scheduling, and the first-week experience
  • Coordinate the company's performance review cycle — scheduling, tracking completion, and supporting managers through the process
  • Coordinate internal training and professional development sessions
  • Serve as the first point of escalation for employee behavioral or performance concerns, and know when and how to escalate further to the President or outside counsel
  • Administer day-to-day PTO tracking and requests
  • Maintain accurate employee records and personnel files
  • Support office coordination: team meetings, lunches, firm events, and employee travel scheduling
  • Serve as a general point of contact for employee questions on HR processes
  • Assist with payroll processing

What you need

Required

  • Associate's degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
  • 2+ years of HR experience (generalist, coordinator, or HR assistant)
  • Strong discretion and judgment handling confidential and sensitive employee matters
  • Comfortable working independently in a small, close-knit office environment
  • Ability to work full-time, in-office in Covington, OH

Preferred

  • Bachelor's degree in HR, Business, or a related field
  • PHR or SHRM-CP certification
  • Experience recruiting for technical roles, or willingness to learn how to screen for them
  • Experience supporting more than one business or location

Who thrives here

  • You can hold a confidence. People need to know that what they tell you stays where it belongs
  • You notice details. A missing form, an expired I-9, a review nobody scheduled — you catch it before it becomes a problem
  • You write and speak clearly. Half this job is explaining a process to someone who's never seen it before
  • You know when to escalate. Good judgment about what you handle and what needs the President or outside counsel
  • You're comfortable being the only one. There's no HR team to fall back on — that's either energizing to you or it isn't
  • You have integrity. You do the right thing when it's difficult, and you own your mistakes
