Job Description:
This job is responsible for executing substantive money laundering, economic sanctions and fraud compliance and operational risk practices. Key responsibilities include working directly or through compliance officers for the Front Line Units (FLUs) and Control Functions (CFs) to complete compliance, policy, operational/fraud risk management requirements.

The GFC Investigations Risk Manager plays a critical role in identifying emerging risks within financial crimes investigations, assessing and recommending process improvement opportunities, and driving optimal execution across end-to-end investigative processes. This role ensures the consistent quality of support activities, processes, and outputs by reinforcing effective review practices and promoting a culture of continuous improvement.

The Manager serves as a subject matter expert, influencing decision-making and strategic direction to reduce risk and create robust, high-value investigative outcomes. Also serves as the primary liaison between business stakeholders and technology teams to support the successful delivery of reporting, analytics, automation, and data-driven solutions. This role is responsible for gathering and documenting business requirements, coordinating project activities, managing timelines, facilitating stakeholder communication, and ensuring deliverables are completed in accordance with agreed-upon schedules.

The successful candidate will possess strong organizational, communication, and project coordination skills with the ability to translate business needs into actionable work plans. This individual will facilitate meetings, monitor project progress, provide status reporting, present recommendations and solution concepts, and ensure stakeholders remain aligned throughout the project lifecycle.

Responsibilities:

  • Advises and directs the development and maintenance of financial crimes owned policies and standards, and reviews relevant Front Line Units/Control Functions-owned policies and standards to ensure that regulatory requirements and operational risks are appropriately addressed

  • Produces and/or oversees independent financial crimes risk management reporting to Global Compliance & Operational Risk (GC&OR) Senior Leaders and FLU/CF Senior Leaders

  • Monitors the changes in regulations applicable to Global Financial Crimes, including advising business leaders, directing the appropriate areas to implement or amend policies, standards, procedures and/or processes to address regulatory requirements, and challenging the implementation plan as needed

  • Participates in industry forums and monitors regulatory expectations, emerging legislation and regulation, political scrutiny, litigation and key influencers to identify and mitigate emerging risks

  • Escalates financial crimes related compliance and operational risks and issues to appropriate governance routines, management/board level committees

  • Identifies, aggregates, reports, escalates, inspects, and challenges the remediation and thematic analysis of FLU/CF-owned issues and control enhancements related to financial crimes

  • Reviews and challenges internal and external operational loss events, including the development of remediation plans to strengthen controls and providing oversight to ensure they are addressed appropriately

  • Identify, assess, and monitor emerging risks within financial crimes investigations.

  • Conduct end-to-end process analysis to uncover inefficiencies and recommend improvements that enhance investigative outcomes.

  • Lead initiatives to reduce non-value-added processes and create robust, high-value investigation outcomes.

  • Develop and implement risk-based internal controls to prevent, detect, and report financial crimes.

  • Evaluate the effectiveness of internal controls and identify gaps or weaknesses.

  • Provide subject matter expertise to support the development of regulatory changes.

  • Monitor regulatory changes and advise business leaders on implications; ensure timely updates to policies, standards, and procedures.

  • Escalate financial crimes-related compliance and operational risks to appropriate governance bodies.

  • Oversee remediation of financial crimes-related compliance and operational risk issues.

  • Design and monitor key risk and control performance metrics; report on performance and breach remediation.

  • Analyze investigation performance data and trends to provide actionable feedback and foster an inclusive team environment.

Business & Stakeholder Coordination

  • Serve as the primary point of contact between business stakeholders and technology teams.

  • Facilitate requirements gathering sessions to understand business needs and objectives.

  • Document business requirements, project scope, assumptions, risks, and dependencies.

  • Ensure stakeholder expectations are clearly communicated and aligned with project deliverables.

  • Coordinate approvals and sign-offs throughout the project lifecycle.

Project Management & Delivery

  • Develop and maintain project plans, milestones, timelines, and deliverable schedules.

  • Track progress against project commitments and proactively escalate risks or issues.

  • Coordinate activities across multiple teams to ensure successful and timely delivery.

  • Drive accountability by following up on action items and ensuring commitments are met.

  • Monitor project status and communicate changes in scope, timeline, or priorities.

Reporting & Analytics Support

  • Partner with reporting and analytics teams to define reporting requirements and business needs.

  • Assist in prioritizing reporting, dashboard, and analytics initiatives.

  • Coordinate testing, validation, and implementation activities.

  • Ensure delivered solutions meet documented business requirements.

  • Identify opportunities to improve reporting processes, efficiency, and stakeholder experiences.

Executive Communication & Governance

  • Prepare project status reports, presentations, and executive summaries.

  • Present project updates, timelines, risks, and proposed solutions to leadership and stakeholders.

  • Facilitate project governance meetings and working sessions.

  • Communicate project outcomes and implementation readiness to impacted teams.

  • Support leadership with data-driven recommendations and decision-making materials.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum seven years of experience in Financial Crimes or related field.

  • Knowledge of anti-money laundering (AML) and related AML legislation.

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Information Systems, Finance, Analytics, or related field, or equivalent work experience.

  • 3+ years of experience in project coordination, business analysis, reporting, analytics, operations, or related functions.

  • Experience gathering and documenting business requirements.

  • Strong organizational and project management skills.

  • Experience creating presentations and presenting information to stakeholders and leadership.

  • Strong knowledge of business process management methodology.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.

  • Proven ability to conduct root cause analysis and solve complex problems collaboratively.

  • Solutions-oriented mindset with strong critical thinking and business acumen.

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field

  • Experience in financial services and/or a related government entity

  • Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS)

  • Intermediate proficiency in process mapping and journey design.

  • Experience in change management or project management.

  • Comfortable navigating complex or ambiguous situations.

  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting reporting, analytics, business intelligence, or technology-related initiatives.

  • Knowledge of project management methodologies such as Agile, Waterfall, or hybrid delivery models.

  • Experience working with cross-functional business and technology teams.

  • Familiarity with Power BI, Tableau, SQL, or other reporting and analytics tools.

  • Experience developing executive-level presentations and status reporting.

  • Financial services, risk management, operations, or compliance experience preferred.
