  • This position requires working from our Denver office four days per week, fostering a culture of high trust and rapid decision-making.

Role Overview

We are seeking a Senior Director, Development Engineering to own the technical execution of our web and mobile platforms across the Exclusive Collective. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who can set architecture and then actually land it — across multiple teams, multiple brands, and multiple codebases — without slowing anyone down.

You will manage engineering leads (a mix of on-site and remote across the Collective), partner directly with Product and Design, and report to the SVP, Engineering. You will be accountable for both the roadmap and the runway: what gets built, how fast it gets built, and whether it holds up at scale.

If you like ambiguity, hate meetings that don’t end in a decision, and believe the best architecture document is a working deployment — this is your role.

Key Responsibilities

Lead & Scale Teams

•    Manage and develop a group of engineering leads and their teams across the Exclusive Collective, including remote direct reports.

•    Recruit, hire, and retain senior engineering talent; raise the bar on every req.

•    Set clear goals, ruthless priorities, and short feedback loops. Coach leads to make decisions without escalating.

•    Build a #GetThingsDone culture: high trust, high velocity, low ceremony.

Own the Architecture

•    Define the technical architecture for our web, mobile, and API platforms — and drive consistent adoption of it across teams that don’t all report to you.

•    Translate architectural direction into practical, team-level implementation plans with real milestones.

•    Establish standards for TypeScript, Node.js, GraphQL, and React/Next.js development that engineers actually want to follow.

•    Own the search strategy across the platform (Elasticsearch, Algolia) — relevance, indexing, performance, and cost.

•    Make build-vs-buy calls and defend them with data.

Ship

•    Drive delivery of scalable, high-performance web and mobile experiences on aggressive timelines.

•    Own CI/CD, code quality, testing strategy, observability, and production readiness across teams.

•    Ensure adherence to security, performance, accessibility, and data-privacy standards.

•    Partner with Product, Design, and business stakeholders to convert strategy into scoped, sequenced, shippable work.

Operate

•    Own cloud architecture and cost management across AWS (primary) and Azure workloads.

•    Manage vendor and partner relationships, third-party integrations, and platform SLAs.

•    Report status, risk, and tradeoffs clearly and early to the SVP, Engineering and executive stakeholders.

Required Skills & Experience

•    12+ years of software engineering experience, with 5+ years leading engineering teams — including managing managers or leads.

•    Proven track record leading consumer-facing web and mobile product engineering at scale.

•    Expert-level TypeScript. This is non-negotiable — you should be able to review and improve your team’s type architecture.

•    Deep production experience with Node.js and GraphQL (schema design, federation or stitching, performance, caching).

•    2+ years hands-on with React and Next.js in production.

•    Production experience with search — Elasticsearch, Algolia, or equivalent — including relevance tuning and indexing pipelines.

•    AWS required — strong working knowledge of core services, cost optimization, and infrastructure-as-code.

•    Azure experience — able to operate and integrate workloads across both clouds.

•    Demonstrated ability to take an architectural vision and successfully apply it across multiple independent teams.

•    Strong management fundamentals: hiring, performance, career development, and org design.

•    Excellent written and verbal communication; able to move between an executive readout and a code review in the same hour.

•    Able to work from our Denver office 4 days per week.

Preferred Qualifications

•    Experience in travel, hospitality, or luxury consumer technology — reservations, availability, inventory, or booking systems.

•    Experience at a high-growth startup or inside a startup-model team within a larger organization.

•    Familiarity with Salesforce-based systems and enterprise API integration.

•    Experience with AI-assisted development tooling and modern developer productivity practices.

•    Mobile delivery experience (React Native or native iOS/Android).

•    Background in performance tuning, edge caching, and Core Web Vitals optimization.

How We Work

•    #GetThingsDone. Bias to action. Decisions in days, not quarters.

•    Small teams, big ownership. You’ll have real scope and real accountability.

•    Startup pace, luxury standard. We ship fast, but our Members expect flawless.

•    Direct communication. Say the hard thing early. Bring the fix with the problem.
