Birch Agency is seeking dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teachers for multiple openings throughout the Detroit area for the 2026-2027 school year. We are hiring educators with a variety of special education endorsements to support students with diverse learning, behavioral, emotional, and developmental needs.

Responsibilities
Provide specialized instruction to students with a variety of disabilities in assigned educational settings.
Plan and deliver rigorous, age-appropriate instruction aligned with Michigan academic standards, district curriculum, individual student needs, and IEP goals.
Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
Differentiate instruction to meet individual academic, communication, behavioral, social-emotional, and sensory needs.
Provide services through individual, small-group, classroom, consultative, and other educational settings as assigned.
Participate as an active member of IEP teams, support evaluations, develop measurable goals, monitor student progress, and assist with transition planning.
Collect, analyze, and maintain accurate data on student performance and progress toward goals.
Maintain attendance records, service logs, progress reports, evaluations, and all required special education documentation.
Collaborate with general education teachers, related service providers, paraprofessionals, administrators, families, caregivers, and community partners.
Communicate student progress regularly and encourage meaningful family engagement.
Implement positive behavior supports and evidence-based instructional practices.
Foster student independence, self-advocacy, social-emotional growth, and functional life skills.
Maintain a safe, structured, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
Support students experiencing academic, behavioral, or adjustment challenges while following district discipline and safety procedures.
Participate in IEP meetings, staff meetings, professional development, and required training activities.
Maintain current knowledge of evidence-based practices, special education regulations, district policies, and instructional strategies.
Perform additional duties related to the assignment as directed by school administration.

Teacher - Emotional Impairment
Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate or Michigan Temporary Teaching Authorization (T2EA)
Emotionally Impaired (SE) endorsement
Teacher - Visually Impaired
Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate or Michigan Temporary Teaching Authorization (T2EA)
Visually Impaired (SK) endorsement
Teacher - Cognitively Impaired
Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate or Michigan Temporary Teaching Authorization (T2EA)
Cognitively Impaired (SA) endorsement

Preferred Qualifications for All Roles
Experience working with students receiving special education services.
Strong understanding of IEP development, implementation, and compliance requirements.
Knowledge of evidence-based instructional and behavioral intervention strategies.
