Job DetailsJob Location: DURANGO, CO 81303Position Type: Full TimeSalary Range: $22.00 - $24.00 HourlyJob Shift: DayJob Category: General Labor Maintenance Technician – Level B Job Title: Maintenance Technician Location: Durango, CO Department: Maintenance Status: Regular, Full-Time Reports To: Maintenance Supervisor or Senior Lead FLSA Category: Non-Exempt Direct Reports:   Level: Level B Relevant Experience: 3-5 Years Salary Range: $22 - $24/hour Position Summary The Maintenance Technician – Level B performs skilled diagnostics, repairs, and preventive maintenance across a range of mechanical systems. Technicians at this level are expected to troubleshoot independently, support small-scale projects, and contribute to continuous improvement of maintenance procedures. This is a mid-level technician role requiring broad equipment knowledge and sound judgment in the field. Key Responsibilities The Maintenance Technician – Level B will be expected to consistently deliver outstanding outcomes in the following areas: Diagnose mechanical failures in motors, drives, conveyor systems, production machinery, and utility equipment using appropriate testing tools and methods. Perform intermediate-level repairs, part replacements, alignments, and calibrations with minimal supervision. Maintain and improve preventive maintenance programs by identifying recurring issues and recommending procedural updates. Coordinate with operators and production teams to schedule maintenance work with minimal disruption. Interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and equipment diagrams to inform repairs and installations. Perform system inspections, identify equipment nearing failure, and initiate corrective actions or work orders. Adhere to all safety regulations, including proper use of Lockout/Tagout and PPE; may serve as LOTO authority on assigned jobs. Complete accurate work documentation, including service records and inventory tracking Provide technical guidance or informal mentoring to Level A or Apprentice technicians. Assist with installation or modification of machinery and processing equipment. Contribute to troubleshooting efforts on cross-functional maintenance teams. Maintain cleanliness and readiness of personal tools and shared shop areas. Perform other duties as required to support department operations. Success in this role requires strong leadership, problem-solving, mechanical aptitude, production planning, and communication skills to coordinate startup activities, maintain product quality, and drive safe, efficient manufacturing operations. Qualifications Education, Experience & Skills High school diploma or GED required; technical school or certification preferred. Minimum 3–5 years of industrial mechanical maintenance experience. Proficiency in diagnosing issues involving chains, belts, gearboxes, pumps, valves, and pneumatic/hydraulic systems. Ability to safely operate forklifts, manlifts, and powered industrial equipment (with certification). Working knowledge of CMMS or maintenance tracking systems. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to prioritize tasks under pressure. Capable of leading small work crews during projects or shutdowns Strong verbal, written, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory products and processes preferred. Demonstrated ability to be accountable for performance, attendance, safety, and quality expectations. Comfortable using technology tools, including Microsoft Office, email, Microsoft network accounts, desktop computers, and tablets. PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT Must be able to work on-site in a factory environment with regular interaction with coworkers and production equipment. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment around moving conveyors, machinery, tables, carts, and racks. Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift. Must be able to bend, reach away from the body and overhead, climb, stoop, grasp small objects, and move safely throughout the facility. Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally, with or without reasonable accommodation. Must be able to push and pull wheeled carts, racks, pallets, and similar equipment up to 200 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation. Must be able to work in a facility and handle products that may contain milk, eggs, wheat, soy, peanuts, and tree nuts. Must be able to follow hygiene, sanitation, safety, and food safety requirements at all times.
