Position Description:

Nevada Gold Mines is looking for a Senior Geologist (Underground or Open Pit) at the Turquoise Ridge Underground mine.  This position is tasked with executing drill programs to derisk the mine plan, expanding current reserve and resource, identifying new and economically viable ore zones that will have a significant impact on the mine's earnings and growth, and incorporating data and interpretation into the geologic model. The ideal candidate will possess a background using Acquire and Leapfrog mining software and capable of working with a diverse team of mine geologists, technical services staff, and diamond drillers. This role requires an individual who is safety driven. 

Responsibilities:

  • Drive zero harm workplace through visible felt leadership, the responsibility to stop unsafe work, and other safety programs in place. 

  • Supervise, mentor, and train junior geologists. Ensure development plans are established and maintained for all direct reports.

  • Design, implement, and track drill programs and interpret results.

  • Build on technical knowledge for geological mapping, drilling, and logging programs. Ensure best practices are utilized, understood, and followed.

  • Monitor QA/QC practices and procedures to ensure compliance with company standards and review SOPs. 

  • Weekly underground and surface field work and drill inspections.

  • Supervise and authorize the design, preparation and implementation of proposals, cost estimates and expenditure requests for production drill programs.

  • Monitor departmental KPI’s to ensure agreed work programs, drilling, cost, and ounce delivery targets are met.

  • Build and maintain collaborative internal relationships with key departments (Engineering, Operations, Process, Environment, Growth, Exploration, Safety and Finance).
  • Engage with resource team to ensure accurate, fit for purpose geological models and mineral estimations are provided, ensuring that all available data are leveraged to maximize value in every model.

  • Support and drive integration of orebody knowledge into all parts of the business.

  • Provide input into the yearly business plans.

  • Identify areas for improvement and present solutions through change management.

     

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Geology, Geological Engineering, or a related field required 
  • Minimum seven (7) years’ experience in underground mine geology preferred
  • Experience leading technical teams with strong interdepartmental communication skills required
  • Familiarity with Deswik, Leapfrog, and Acquire software preferred
  • Proven ability to communicate optimally; both verbally and in writing required
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision required
  • Excellent safety record with ability to demonstrate safety leadership required
