BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION:


  • The Quality Assurance Manager manages and coordinates the quality of pipe produced at a manufacturing plant; also, to control and improve safety, quality, reliability, technical capabilities, efficiency and productive of lab staff.
  • The Quality Assurance Manager reports to the Plant Manager at the manufacturing facility as well as the Corporate Quality Director. Reporting responsibilities are split per local and corporate requirements. 


RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE:


• Training and supervising quality assurance technicians who report to you

  • Accountable for understanding and putting into practice the SHE Principles. Additionally, the Quality Assurance Manager has a responsibility to cascade the understanding of the principles through the location and their work group. Ensure all training is documented as appropriate
  • Ensuring compliance with all registrations such as ISO, NSF, FM, UL and handling audits
  • Entering resin and production information into SAP
  • If trucks are used at the facility, duties may include managing truck drivers, DOT and CDL requirements. 
  • Managing incoming materials from trucks/railcars, tracking and testing all materials.
  • Assisting with inventory management
  • Ensure that the quality management system is maintained within the laboratories.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives within the Quality Department.
  • Assisting in maintaining the plant’s Lean Manufacturing and 5S efforts.

• Overseeing product compliance with the WL Plastics Quality Program as defined in the Quality

Program Manual (QPM)

o Conducting tests on products and product samples in the lab or in the facility to determine product compliance with the QPM, industry standards and customer specifications

o Evaluating test results and determining product conformance or non-conformance

o Communicating product quality determinations with plant management

o Maintaining records of quality tests, production and product conformance including correct entry into database. 

o Verifying production quantities

o Preparing and forwarding quality certifications

o Maintaining laboratory and quality equipment certifications

  • Conducting customer audits and tours as needed.
  • Travel to plants to conduct onsite audits, assist with training of new QA Managers/QA techs
  • Depending on location, may be responsible for two plants

• Providing leadership in the facility

  • Decision making on final disposition of product. 

• Performing other duties assigned by the Plant Manager

• Flexible hours and weekend work will be required

JOB REQUIREMENTS:


• Preferred candidates will have at least two years post-High School technical school or college education in an industrial, technical, math, science or management course of study, or equivalent, relevant experience; Associates degree preferred; computer skills are a must.

  • Preferred candidate will have ISO auditor training

• Must be a U.S. citizen or a non-U.S. citizen having legal status to reside and work in the U.S. for reasons other than practical training.

• Proven leadership, persuasive, initiative, adaptability, and communication skills are necessary for success in this position.

• Must be able to work safely in a production environment; Must be physically capable of performing job related tasks and job duties. Requires lifting of 50 lbs

  • Preferred candidate will have a minimum of 4 years’ experience as a QAM within WL Plastics
  • Regular, predictable, and full attendance is an essential function of the job.


WORK ENVIRONMENT:


• The position combines hands-on management, technical analysis, and administrative tasks.

• Time will be spent among office, production floor, and lab areas. A large majority of your time may be spent working on the production floor and coordinating tasks. This is not a laboratory position.

• Work closely with quality control technicians, plant manager, production manager, production supervisors, production staff, shipping staff, maintenance staff as well as other personnel as required.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:


• Travel to other cities or manufacturing facilities may be necessary for meeting, training or benchmarking purposes.
