Job Description Summary:

We are seeking a dynamic and self-motivated individual to fill the position of Animal Welfare & Biosecurity Specialist in Aviagen North America. This position plays a key role in safeguarding the welfare and health of our breeding programs through conducting internal audits across production and hatchery operations, as well as supporting best practices across all operational levels. This role will work closely with all site managers and staff throughout Aviagen operations.

Job Description:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure company and/or legal standards are maintained in terms of animal handling and animal welfare.
  • Develop and maintain animal welfare and biosecurity programs, standards, and procedures to ensure alignment with company and global expectations.
  • Lead and facilitate internal trainings, workshops, and educational initiatives to support consistent implementation and adherence to animal welfare guidelines.
  • Conduct routine global animal welfare and biosecurity audits across the East and South regions to evaluate compliance with Aviagen ANA and global standards, programs, and expectations.
  • Serve as subject-matter expert resource for ANA operations, provide guidance and support on welfare program expectations and compliance.
  • Support production operations in the development and implementation of corrective actions identified in internal or external audits and provide follow-up to ensure completion.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to respond to audit findings and opportunities for improvement in a timely, data-driven manner.
  • May perform other tasks as deemed necessary by Manager.

Qualifications and Attributes:

  • Must be based in North Central Alabama.
  • High School diploma required; Bachelor of Science degree in Poultry Science or related field preferred
  • Willingness and ability to travel frequently (approx. 50%) across the United States.
  • Computer skills including Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-driven with the ability to work independently for extended periods.
  • Must be self-motivated with ability to perform tasks with accuracy and efficiency
  • Time management. Ability to prioritize objectives, planning, monitoring and analysis.
  • Detail oriented
  • Valid driver’s license required
