We’re seeking a dedicated and compassionate Supervisor to oversee operations at the Kittitas County Cold Weather Shelter — a vital lifeline for individuals experiencing homelessness during the harsh winter months. In this role, you won’t just be managing a facility — you’ll be leading a team that provides warmth, safety, and dignity to those in need. The Cold Weather Shelter Supervisor will oversee all daily operations of the Cold Weather Shelter (CWS). This role is essential in ensuring a safe, welcoming environment for individuals experiencing homelessness, promoting a non-judgmental and compassionate service. This position is seasonal full-time from October to April and includes full benefits (medical, dental, and life insurance) and accruals. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Foster a welcoming atmosphere by engaging with clients in a respectful and compassionate manner.
  • Act as a liaison between clients and community resources to provide comprehensive support.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to the development of best practices within the shelter.
  • Recruit, train, and schedule volunteers and staff, ensuring they are well-informed and equipped to fulfill their roles effectively.
  • Resolve operational issues, uphold policies and procedures, and implement new procedures as directed to ensure smooth and efficient shelter operations.
  • Ensures client-centric work by implementing client service standards.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and records related to shelter operations and client services and enter necessary data into the client management database.
  • Monitor shelter activities through coordination with staff, volunteer and overnight security 
  • Maintain an active role and presence at the shelter and fill in shifts when needed.
  • Field after-hours calls related to emergency matters, addressing issues immediately or escalating to a manager if appropriate. 
  • Model and coach staff in proactive guest interactions and engagement using CASTLE principles.
  • Purchase supplies and maintain inventory to ensure the shelter is well-equipped to meet client's needs.
  • Communicate with guests who are facing significant continued rule violations and issue nights out or trespass based on established shelter guidelines.
  • Meets with trespassed guests and reviews rules and expectations prior to re-entry into CWS.
  • Ensure the shelter is always maintained in a clean and safe condition.
  • Coordinate food delivery and storage
  • Schedule staff and ensure all shifts are covered
  • Coordinate laundry services and cleaning for the shelter
  • Coordinate with Customer Care team to provide wraparound services for shelter guests
  • Enter POs for all shelter related invoices and expenditures
  • Track and receipt donations for in-kind and monetary gifts

Work Environment:

Flexible hours to accommodate shelter needs outside of normal working hours. Regular check-in with shelter staff during shelter shifts 6 AM to 10 AM and 6 PM to 10 PM will be necessary. 

Minimal Requirements:

  • Openness and a non-judgmental attitude towards individuals experiencing homelessness.
  • A genuine passion for supporting people and addressing their needs.
  • Acceptable Criminal History Report
  • Reliable and punctual
  • Maintain a high degree of confidentiality relative to work performed
  • Effective communication skills and a professional attitude 
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize work, and manage multiple priorities on deadlines
