Globally, the Cartamundi Retail and Industry channel branded business represents over 200m USD, with specifically Brazil, Germany, France, UK, Spain, BeNeLux, China and India as focus countries.

Primary Purpose of Position:

Under the guidance of the Director, Operations, Planning and Supply Chain, the Operations Manager oversees all activities of the Finishing department. The duties could take place on any shift, depending on changing needs/risks at the time.  He/she will have direct supervisory responsibility of the Finishing Supervisors.   He/she ensures timely delivery of the highest quality products at the lowest reasonable cost by performing the following duties personally, or through delegation to subordinates. He/she will have project related responsibilities, as well as responsibility for the development of people and processes. 

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Assists in the execution of Production schedules and provides timely responses to production and personnel issues.  Ensures subordinates do the same through continuous training.
  • Fosters a healthy team environment, ensuring employee accountability and outstanding team performance. Works across the different finishing areas to identify opportunities of cross training and development of individuals and teams to improve overall performance. Develops team leaders in each area. 
  • Works closely with the Director of Operations, other Operations Managers, HR and Planning to coordinate on-time delivery of 1st quality product the 1st time.  Puts team goals first and works to tear down boundaries between functional areas.
  • With the help on the Warehousing/Continuous Improvement Manager, aids in establishing training and development programs for employees within the area of responsibility, ensuring that the training is delivered in an effective manner.
  • Ensures timely communications of performance or other key information to all affected personnel.  
  • Models company values at all times, and is an employee advocate and promoter of quality, safety and productivity.
  • Ensures people are properly trained and are following safety (including proper PPE) and quality procedures.
  • Leads the development of teams and team leaders at the floor level in the finishing department.
  • Determines staffing requirements and re-deploys resources as needed to address any shifting manning needs, or changes in priorities and schedules
  • Includes safety considerations in all department meetings and regular interactions to raise awareness of the team to perform their tasks in a consistently safe manner
  • Institutes and maintains good housekeeping standards in accordance with a sustained 5S program
  • Poses no direct threat to the health or safety of himself/herself, others, or to property. 
  • Exemplary attendance and shift flexibility is an essential element of the role
  • Performs assignments as directed by management. 
  • Establishes and maintains effective work relationships within the department, the Corporation and the community; and maintains the professional competence, knowledge and skill necessary for the satisfactory performance of all assigned responsibilities.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred

 

Experience and Knowledge:

  • 5-7 years of leadership experience within a manufacturing setting
  • Experience with standardized work procedures, e.g. ISO 9001, written job instructions, job aides
  • Experience implementing Lean Manufacturing philosophies, e.g. Quick Changeover (SMED), TPM, Visual workplace (5S), pull manufacturing, Kanban cards, continuous improvement mentality
  • Word, Excel spreadsheet proficiency
  • Experience with SAP
  • Proven track record in implementing significant change.

  • Team-oriented management style with demonstrated leadership and facilitation skills
  • Good planning and problem-solving skills with proven track record in achieving results through teamwork 
  • Ability to communicate and work well with people from all levels of the organization; instruct and direct in a firm, fair and consistent manner
  • Ability to interpret instructions and guidance from executive management; make thoughtful decisions and gain further data and guidance as necessary
