Sheppard Auto Group is looking for an exceptional General Sales Manager to lead our New and Used Vehicle Sales Operations across our Audi, Volvo, Volkswagen, and Hyundai dealerships in Eugene, Oregon. This is not a maintenance-management position. THE OPPORTUNITY As General Sales Manager, you will be a key member of the dealership leadership team and will have significant responsibility for the performance and development of our New and Used Vehicle Sales Teams. You will work closely with our management and leadership to establish goals, develop strategies, manage performance, improve processes, and drive profitable growth. You will report directly to the Chief Operating Officer and Variable Operations Director. WHAT YOU’LL OWN Sales Leadership Lead and oversee New and Used Vehicle Sales Teams across our dealership operations. Establish annual, quarterly, and monthly sales goals and performance expectations. Drive sales volume, gross profit, productivity, closing ratios, lead performance, and overall sales effectiveness. Review performance regularly and take action when teams or individuals fall short of expectations. Build a culture of accountability, teamwork, professionalism, and success. Be visible and engaged with the Sales Teams and Sales Managers on a daily basis. Leadership & Team Development Recruit, train, coach, develop, and retain Sales Managers and Team Leaders. Develop strong managers who can independently lead their teams and produce results. Establish clear expectations and hold managers accountable. Conduct regular performance meetings and develop action plans for improvement. Identify high-potential employees and help develop the next generation of dealership leaders. Partner with Human Resources on staffing, performance management, employee development, and employee relations. Sales Process & Performance Ensure consistent execution of the dealership’s sales process. Coach managers and salespeople to improve performance and customer engagement. Identify opportunities to improve processes, productivity, and conversion. Monitor key performance indicators and use data to make informed business decisions. Continuously look for ways to improve the Sales Department’s effectiveness and profitability. Inventory Management Maintain appropriate New and Used Vehicle inventory levels based on market conditions, manufacturer objectives, customer demand, sales forecasts, and profitability. Monitor inventory age, turn, mix, pricing, and merchandising. Develop strategies to minimize aged inventory and maximize inventory profitability. Ensure New and Used Vehicles are properly displayed, merchandised, maintained, and presented. Manufacturer Relations Maintain strong professional relationships with our manufacturer partners. Monitor manufacturer sales objectives, market share requirements, CSI expectations, incentive programs, and other performance requirements. Ensure manufacturer-funded advertising and sales programs are executed appropriately and in accordance with manufacturer requirements. Communicate manufacturer programs and expectations effectively to the Sales Teams. Customer Experience / CSI Create a genuine customer-first culture. Monitor CSI and customer satisfaction performance. Develop action plans when performance falls below expectations. Personally assist with escalated customer concerns when appropriate. Ensure customers receive a professional, transparent, and exceptional experience throughout the sales process. Financial Performance Take ownership of Sales Department profitability. Monitor sales volume, gross profit, expenses, productivity, inventory costs, and other key financial metrics. Develop strategies to improve both volume and profitability. Work closely with dealership leadership to achieve overall financial objectives. WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR We are looking for a proven automotive leader who understands that great dealerships are built by great people. You should have: Previous experience as a General Sales Manager, Senior Sales Manager, or comparable automotive leadership role. Proven success leading New and Used Vehicle Sales Teams. A demonstrated history of achieving sales and profitability objectives. Strong understanding of dealership financial and performance metrics. Experience with inventory management and aged inventory. Strong knowledge of automotive sales processes and best practices. Experience with CSI/customer satisfaction programs. Demonstrated ability to recruit, develop, coach, and retain managers and sales professionals. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Strong business judgment and decision-making ability.
