Job Summary
The Groundskeeper is responsible for maintaining the grounds and outdoor spaces of Maharishi International University (MIU) in a safe, attractive, functional, and environmentally responsible condition. This position performs routine and seasonal grounds maintenance throughout the University campus, including lawn care, landscaping, tree and shrub maintenance, snow and ice removal, cleanup, and general outdoor maintenance.
The Groundskeeper is responsible for maintaining the grounds and outdoor spaces of Maharishi International University (MIU) in a safe, attractive, functional, and environmentally responsible condition. This position performs routine and seasonal grounds maintenance throughout the University campus, including lawn care, landscaping, tree and shrub maintenance, snow and ice removal, cleanup, and general outdoor maintenance.
Job Responsibilities
- Maintain lawns, landscaped areas, gardens, walkways, parking areas, and other outdoor spaces throughout the MIU campus.
Remove weeds, brush, volunteer trees, dead vegetation, leaves, branches, and other debris from campus property.
Operate and maintain grounds equipment, including:
- Mowers
- Tractors
- Trimmers
- Blowers
- Chainsaws
- Snow removal equipment
- Other tools appropriate to the position
- Assist with snow and ice removal from:
- Sidewalks
- Entrances
- Roadways
- Parking areas
- Other designated areas
- Apply salt, ice melt, sand, or other approved materials as needed to maintain safe pedestrian and vehicle access.
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous experience in grounds maintenance, landscaping, agriculture, facilities maintenance, or a related field preferred.
- Experience operating lawn and grounds equipment preferred.
- Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, and grounds maintenance equipment.
- Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a team.
- Dependable attendance and ability to respond to changing priorities and weather conditions.
- Valid driver's license and ability to meet University requirements for operating University vehicles, when required by assigned duties.
Additional Requirements
- Ability to work primarily outdoors in all types of weather.
- If the weather does not allow for exterior work, employees will support the custodial services team.
- Must be physically able to lift, lower, carry, push, and pull objects up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to stand, climb, bend, stoop, kneel, and crouch for extended periods of time.
- Must be flexible with work schedule to support inclement weather needs.
