Job DetailsJob Location: Fairhope Store - Fairhope, AL 36532Position Type: Full TimeEducation Level: High SchoolSalary Range: $18.00 - $18.00 HourlyJob Shift: Open Availability Sun -Sat 8am - 8:30pmTITLE:       Assistant Manager      DATE WRITTEN:  06/2026    DEPARTMENT:   Donated Goods SUPERVISED BY:  Store Manager    SUPERVISES:       Store Employees, participants/trainees  STATUS:                   Hourly   Mission Contribution:  To ensure the efficient and cost effective operation and stewardship of the Goodwill retail store to maximize profitability and increase employment and/or training opportunities.    Function:  Under the team leadership of the Director of Store Development or the Store Manager, the Assistant Manager is responsible for all aspects of operating a donated goods retail store.    Essential Functions:                                                                                                                                                        Ensures World Class donor and customer service is delivered consistently by creating a positive experience for every shopper, donor, and team member.   Trains, develops, supervises, and evaluates team members within the framework of Goodwill policies, procedures, and job descriptions.   Conducts hands-on training and maintains proficiency in all store positions. Must be a hands-on leader who is actively involved in all areas of store operations and able to meet the physical requirements of each position.   Oversees the proper handling, processing, merchandising, rotation, pricing, and stewardship of donated goods in accordance with agency standards.   Monitors store performance and key operational metrics, including sales to budget, donor value, production, payroll, inventory flow, and labor productivity, and takes corrective action when needed.   Assists with scheduling, payroll management, timecard reviews, and staffing adjustments to support operational and financial objectives.   Ensures agency property, equipment, supplies, and facilities are properly maintained, secured, ordered, and utilized in accordance with established budgets and agency practices.   Maintains compliance with all safety, security, loss prevention, risk management, and agency policies, including the timely reporting of accidents, injuries, and unusual incidents.   Ensures the following statistical counts are completed accurately and in a timely manner:   Donor Counts   Cash Counts   Bank Deposits   Apparel Hang Counts   Rotation Counts   Salvage   Works with the Director of Risk Management to maintain compliance with Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) standards.   Maintains knowledge of agency programs, operational standards, industry trends, and competitive pricing practices.   Supports agency initiatives, special events, training programs, and accreditation requirements as assigned.   Performs other duties as assigned.    QualificationsSkills, knowledge and abilities: (these are required to enable job holder to perform the essential functions of the job).  Must be able to interact cordially and productively with a variety of people.                                Must be able to market Goodwill and explain the mission to the general public.                    Ability to use Word, Excel and Outlook required as well as ability to use other office equipment.  Must be able to take initiative and work well with little supervision.  Must possess excellent organizational and communication skills.  Must be able to keep information confidential.  Must be able to read, write and communicate clearly in English.  Must be able to maintain an effective working relationship with, and among employees while motivating them to their best performance.  Must be able to work a flexible schedule, on short notice, including nights and weekends, and regularly in excess of 40 hours per week.  Ability to function in a hectic work environment with occasional periods of high stress.    Experience and Education Requirements:  Experience in business (retail) setting.  High School Diploma or GED required. Associate’s Degree in business or related field or a Bachelor’s degree preferred.    Basic computer skills.  Minimum of two years of management/supervisory experience preferred.  Strong leadership, interpersonal and communication skills.  Experience training individuals with disabilities and low socio-economic team members.  Strong problem-solver and decision-maker.    Physical Requirements:  Able to bend, reach and stand for extensive periods of time and lift up to forty pounds.  May be required to lift heavier goods/items with the assistance of another team member.  Able to perform tasks that require repetitive motion; i.e., tagging or hanging clothes.  Manual dexterity is required.    Working Conditions:  Frequent physical exertion; exposure to unfit donated goods; regular travel throughout the Gulf Coast area.    Critical Performance Factors:  Donor Value  Budgeted Sales vs. Actual Sales  Budgeted Profit vs. Actual Profit  Sales per Labor Hour  Transaction Value  Customer Service  Retention  Safety/Accident Prevention  Image  Equal Opportunity Employer/Veterans/Disabled
