As our Deputy Coroner, you will work a consistent Monday through Friday schedule from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

WHAT YOUR IMPACT WILL LOOK LIKE

As a Deputy Coroner, you will independently manage death investigations from initial response through case completion. You will investigate death scenes, gather and document evidence, interview witnesses and family members, evaluate medical and autopsy records, and work closely with law enforcement and forensic professionals. You'll communicate with families and partner agencies, provide court testimony when needed, determine cause and manner of death, and help maintain the efficient operation of the Coroner's Office through record keeping, training, reporting, and administrative support. Every case will offer the opportunity to use your investigative expertise while providing an essential service to the community.

THE EXPERIENCE YOU BRING AS OUR DEPUTY CORONER

• Associate's degree or equivalent experience
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Experience working with bereaved families
• Knowledge of federal and state laws, rules, and regulations
• Basic anatomy and medical terminology
• Knowledge of investigative and interviewing techniques, procedures, and evidence documentation practices
• Ability to work independently and to make professional judgment
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with professionalism and discretion
• Proficient in the use of computer software
• Ability to operate office equipment and investigative tools, including cameras, scanners, printers, communication equipment, and recording devices
• Ability to safely use investigative instruments and specimen collection tools, including forceps, scalpels, syringes, and large-gauge needles
• Ability to work in a variety of environments, including office settings, medical facilities, residences, outdoor locations, crawl spaces, lofts, and areas with uneven terrain
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and respond to scenes at any time
• Ability to perform the physical requirements of the position, including standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, pushing, pulling, dragging, and lifting
• Ability to frequently lift and move up to 100 pounds and occasionally lift or move more than 100 pounds
• Ability to work in environments with potential exposure to biohazards
• Certification by the American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigators (ABMDI) is preferred
