Summary of Job Duties:

As a member of a multidisciplinary research team, the Postdoctoral Researcher will conduct research to advance novel machine learning and data harmonization approaches for water quality monitoring and assessment. Responsibilities include developing and validating computational methods to standardize and infer nutrient and sediment observations from existing datasets; evaluating impacts of expanded datasets on watershed-scale assessments; developing and maintaining open-source software tools and R packages; disseminating findings through publications and presentations; and collaborating with university and federal partners to improve national water quality science and decision support.

Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.


Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Biological Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, Hydrology, Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Geography, Water Resources, or a closely related field from an accredited institution of higher education

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience applying machine learning or artificial intelligence methods to environmental, hydrologic, or water quality datasets

  • Strong computational background in statistical modeling, reproducible workflows, and large-scale data processing

  • Experience with water quality, nutrient, sediment, watershed, or hydrologic datasets

  • Experience developing, maintaining, and documenting open-source software tools or R packages

  • Experience with geospatial analysis, environmental databases, and cloud or high-performance computing workflows

  • Demonstrated record of peer-reviewed publications

  • Experience collaborating with interdisciplinary teams and/or federal agencies (e.g., USGS)

  • Familiarity with version control systems (Git/GitHub) and open science practices

This position is renewable annually based on continued need for the position, availability of funding, and satisfactory job performance.
