Job Summary
Forward Labs is hiring a Lead Sleep Technologist to guide our day-shift sleep lab team in Flint, MI. This role is ideal for an experienced, board-certified polysomnographic technologist holding RPSGT (Registered Polysomnographic Technologist), CRT-SDS (Certified Respiratory Therapist β Sleep Disorders Specialist), or CRT/RRT with RST (Registered Sleep Technologist) credentials, who also brings 2β3 years of team leadership or supervisory experience. You will oversee daytime clinical operations, mentor and schedule a team of sleep technologists, and ensure high-quality patient care, accurate diagnostics, and smooth day-to-day workflow across in-center and home sleep testing programs.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Operations
- Supervise, schedule, and coordinate the daily workflow of day-shift sleep technologists and support staff.
- Serve as the first point of escalation for clinical, technical, and patient-care issues during day-shift operations.
- Onboard, train, and mentor new technologists and trainees; conduct competency checks and ongoing skills coaching.
- Support performance management: provide feedback, contribute to reviews, and help resolve staffing or workflow issues.
- Partner with the Lab Manager/Director on staffing plans, equipment needs, and process improvements.
- Lead or coordinate team meetings, huddles, and continuing education sessions.
Sleep Study Preparation & Patient Care
- Review patient history, verify physician orders, and confirm insurance/consent documentation prior to testing.
- Greet and orient patients for in-center and out-of-center (home) sleep testing, explaining procedures clearly and compassionately.
- Select, calibrate, and troubleshoot polysomnography (PSG) equipment to ensure accurate signal acquisition.
- Apply EEG, EOG, EMG, ECG, respiratory, and other sensors in accordance with AASM (American Academy of Sleep Medicine) standards.
Sleep Study Administration
- Independently conduct and oversee diagnostic PSG, split-night, CPAP/BiPAP titration, MSLT, MWT, and parasomnia studies as needed during day-shift hours (e.g., MSLT/MWT follow-up testing, daytime titrations, and equipment/data review).
- Perform physiological calibrations and real-time data quality checks; review overnight data handoffs from the night team.
- Recognize and score sleep stages, respiratory events, arousals, and cardiac/movement abnormalities.
- Initiate and adjust PAP therapy, supplemental oxygen, and other interventions per protocol and physician orders.
- Manage portable/home sleep testing (HSAT) equipment setup, patient education, data download, and troubleshooting.
- Deliver age-specific, culturally competent care across all patient populations (pediatric through geriatric).
Compliance, Quality & Program Support
- Maintain strict compliance with HIPAA, infection control, and sleep center safety protocols; ensure team-wide adherence.
- Lead quality assurance initiatives, chart audits, and equipment maintenance/inventory management for the day team.
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation to support physician scoring and interpretation.
- Maintain current CPR/BLS certification and required continuing education for credential renewal; track team certification compliance.
- Assist leadership with process documentation, policy updates, and accreditation readiness (e.g., AASM accreditation standards).
Required Qualifications
- Active board certification in one of the following (required):
- RPSGT (Registered Polysomnographic Technologist), or
- CRT-SDS (Certified Respiratory Therapist β Sleep Disorders Specialist), or
- CRT or RRT with RST (Registered Sleep Technologist) credential
- 2β3 years of experience leading, supervising, or managing a team (sleep lab, clinical, or related healthcare setting).
- Current CPR/BLS certification.
- Strong working knowledge of AASM scoring criteria, PAP titration protocols, and PSG equipment.
- Excellent communication, critical thinking, coaching, and customer service skills.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and lead a team independently in a fast-paced clinical environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate or bachelor's degree in Polysomnographic/Sleep Technology or related allied health field.
- Prior experience with home sleep apnea testing (HSAT) and complex PAP titrations.
- Experience with staff scheduling, training program development, or quality assurance programs.
- Familiarity with AASM accreditation standards and survey preparation.

Pay: Competitive, commensurate with certification, leadership experience, and market data for lead-level board-certified RPSGT/CRT-SDS/RST technologists (above senior individual-contributor tech pay).
