Description

FLSA: 聽聽Non-exempt/full-time

Department: Hospital Services聽

Work Days/Hours: 聽Monday through Friday 6:00 am - 2:30 pm

(rotating on-call overnights, weekends, and holidays)

Reports to: 聽聽Director of Hospital Services

Pay Range: 聽聽$58-62/hour (DOE)

聽Job Summary

This position is responsible for performing laboratory testing on patient and donor samples, interpreting and reporting results, performing quality control and quality assurance procedures, participating in regulatory inspections and complying with all applicable local, state, federal laboratory requirements, and following current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), FDA, CLIA, California Department of Health, OSHA, and AABB regulations. The IRL / Blood Bank Supervisor is generally responsible for day-to-day testing operations, managing personnel, training or retraining, monitoring PM schedules, and inventory and reagent control. This role also assists with outsourced donor testing, including reconciliation of results and working with QA on confirmatory testing.聽


This is an active, "on the bench" leadership role that requires strong technical expertise to resolve complex testing issues in a fast-paced environment while managing staff and maintaining fiscal integrity.


聽聽Essential Responsibilities聽

Clinical Testing & Technical Operations

路 Perform and Document Testing: Execute and interpret complex immunohematology, compatibility, and donor/patient serological testing.

路 Customer Support: Provide clinical expertise and preliminary and final test results to hospital customers.

路 Component Manufacturing: Cross-train in platelet and component manufacturing (e.g., frozen/deglycerolized RBCs) and product QC.

路 Result Review: Finalize donor testing from outside labs and review testing performed by internal departments.

路 Troubleshooting: Act as a technical liaison for blood center operations, exercising clinical judgment to resolve test system issues.

路 Donor Operations: Assist with donor notifications and lookbacks.


Quality Control, Compliance & Safety

路 CLIA Technical Supervisor: Serve as the designated technical supervisor for the lab.

路 Regulatory Compliance: Maintain cGMP standards, enforce QA guidelines, and ensure adherence to internal SOPs and external regulations.

路 Audits & Reviews: Assist with comprehensive QC, document, and data log reviews, and prepare staff for inspections.

路 Safety & Waste: Manage biohazardous waste disposal and product quarantines.

路 Process Improvement: Document corrective actions for non-conforming events and update testing SOPs.


Leadership, Training & Team Environment

路 Staff Training: Train staff on SOPs, instruments, and workflows, and maintain all training and competency records.

路 Team Culture: Model the company's core values to foster a positive, ethical, and collaborative team environment.

路 Strategic Planning: Participate in staff meetings, task forces, and the implementation of operational changes.


Equipment & Inventory Management

路 Equipment Maintenance: Perform and document routine preventive maintenance (PM) on all lab instrumentation.

路 Inventory Control: Manage supplies, evaluate standing orders, and ensure reagents are properly rotated and unexpired.


Workplace & Attendance Policies

路 Reliability: Maintain consistent, on-time attendance; avoid excessive absenteeism.

路 Compliance: Take compliant meal and rest periods in accordance with California law.

Requirements

聽聽Qualifications and Skills

Education/Licenses/Experience

  • Licensure: Current, active California Clinical 聽聽聽聽聽Laboratory Scientist (CLS) or Clinical Immunohematology Scientist (CIS) 聽聽聽聽聽license.

Experience:

  • 3+ years of laboratory experience involving Blood Bank/Transfusion 聽聽聽聽聽聽science聽
    • Experience in IRL and Trauma Centers highly preferred.
  • Skills: High attention to detail, ability to rapidly adapt to changing priorities, and exceptional communication skills for collaborative conflict resolution.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Specialist in Blood Banking SBB (ASCP) or BB (ASCP) certification.
