Overview

The Manager of the Clinical Documentation Integrity (CDI) Center of Excellence (COE) and Quality, Education & Training is responsible for leading the organization's enterprise-wide CDI quality assurance, education, competency development, and training programs. This role serves as the central leader for establishing standardized documentation integrity and coding best practices across all hospitals, physician groups, and care settings. The Manager develops and oversees a comprehensive quality and educational framework focused on clinical documentation improvement, regulatory compliance, quality outcomes, reimbursement integrity, and provider documentation excellence. The position partners closely with CDI, Coding, Revenue Integrity, Health Information Management (HIM), Quality, Compliance, Physician Advisors, Medical Staff Leadership, and Operational Leaders to advance organizational performance through education, auditing, and continuous improvement. The role functions as the enterprise subject matter expert for CDI quality assurance methodologies, educational program development, competency management, and performance improvement initiatives.


Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing, Health Information Management, Healthcare Administration, or related healthcare field.
  • Master’s degree in nursing, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or related field preferred.

 

Experience

  • Minimum seven (7) years of progressive experience in CDI.
  • Minimum three (3) years of supervisory or management experience.
  • Experience in an integrated delivery system, academic medical center, or large multi-hospital health system preferred.
  • Experience working with stakeholder engagement and clinical documentation improvement initiatives required.
  • Experience utilizing Epic and CDI technology platforms required.

 

License/Certification/Registration

  • One of the following required:
    • Registered Nurse (RN)
    • Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)
    • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)
    • Medical Degree (MD/DO)
    • Other clinically licensed healthcare professionals
  • Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist (CCDS) preferred.
  • Clinical Documentation Integrity Practitioner (CDIP) preferred.
  • Certified Revenue Cycle Representative (CRCR) preferred.
  • Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) preferred.
  • Certified Coding Specialist Professional (CCS-P) preferred.
  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC).

 

Other Qualifications

  • Knowledge of ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT, HCPCS coding principles.
  • Knowledge of MS-DRG and APR-DRG methodologies, along with clinical validation.
  • Knowledge of documentation improvement methodologies.
  • Knowledge of HCC/risk adjustment models.
  • Knowledge of quality and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong leadership and team development skills.
  • Ability to influence best practices through education and collaboration.
