About the Role:
Housing Advocacy Vocational and Employment is looking for a dedicated and compassionate Direct Support Professional to join our team in Gaithersburg, MD. This is a rewarding Monday–Friday, 8 AM–4 PM position where you'll make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals with disabilities every single day. Responsibilities:
- Provide direct care and daily living support to individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities
- Assist clients with personal hygiene, grooming, meal preparation, and daily routines
- Implement individualized support plans (ISPs) and document progress accurately
- Facilitate community integration, vocational activities, and social skill development
- Transport and accompany clients to appointments, programs, and community outings
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, families, and care team members
- Respond appropriately to behavioral support needs and crisis situations
Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED required
- Prior experience in direct support, caregiving, or human services preferred
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screening
- Strong interpersonal skills with a patient, empathetic, and person-centered approach
- Ability to obtain CPR, First Aid, and Medication Technician certifications (training may be provided)
- Reliable, punctual, and committed to consistent attendance
