About the Role:
Housing Advocacy Vocational and Employment is looking for a compassionate and dedicated Direct Support Professional to join our team in Gaithersburg, MD. This is a Monday–Friday, 8 am–4 pm position offering a consistent schedule where you can make a real difference in the lives of individuals with disabilities every single day. Responsibilities:
- Provide direct care and daily living support to individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities
- Assist clients with personal hygiene, meal preparation, and daily routines
- Implement individualized support plans (ISPs) and document progress accurately
- Transport and accompany clients to community activities, appointments, and vocational programs
- Encourage skill-building, independence, and community integration
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, families, and care team members
- Respond to behavioral or medical situations following established protocols
Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED required
- Prior experience in direct support, caregiving, or human services preferred
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screening
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire)
- Strong communication, patience, and problem-solving skills
- Genuine passion for supporting individuals with disabilities
