Process Technician

Position Summary
We are seeking a Process Technician to support plating operations, chemical management, waste treatment processes, and laboratory activities. The Process Technician is responsible for chemical additions to plating lines, monitoring process conditions, maintaining chemical storage and waste treatment areas, and ensuring all work is performed safely and according to established procedures.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, safety-conscious, dependable, and comfortable working with chemicals in a manufacturing environment.
Essential Responsibilities
- Make all required chemical additions to plating lines and fill chemical autofeed containers.
- Complete daily checklists and assigned duties accurately and on time.
- Inspect all tanks daily and immediately report leaks to Maintenance and the Chemistry Manager.
- Maintain acid storage and chemical holding areas in a clean, safe, and organized condition.
- Participate in housekeeping and 5S activities, including maintaining the Chemical Storage Cage and chemical addition areas.
- Assist the Waste Treatment Operator as needed and monitor the waste treatment process.
- Perform duties outlined in the Waste Treatment Operations Manual.
- Complete HWMOA (Waste Treatment and Hazardous Waste Management Operator Assistant) training and support training toward the primary Waste Treatment Operator role.
- Respond to abnormal conditions according to the Waste Treatment – Abnormal Condition Reaction Plan and notify the Waste Treatment and Chemistry Manager when issues cannot be resolved through the established plan.
- Assist the Lab Technician as needed.
- Enter and maintain accurate records of all chemical additions in Zinc It.
- Report chemical needs and requirements to the Lab Technician.
- Verify and calibrate metering pumps as required.
- Understand and follow confined space entry and lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures.
- Access and understand Safety Data Sheets (SDS/MSDS).
- Report unresolved issues to the Lab Technician or Chemistry Manager.
- Maintain a required 30-minute lunch break and follow assigned work schedules.
Schedule Requirements
- Weekend work and overtime will be required based on business needs.
- Mondays are critical for the primary Waste Treatment Operator. Vacation on Mondays is not permitted unless a full-week vacation is requested.
- Employees must follow their assigned work schedule and obtain appropriate approval before making schedule changes.

Safety & PPE Requirements
The Process Technician must wear all required PPE, including:
- Work gloves.
- Safety glasses.
- White disposable protective suit when adding chemicals or changing filters.
- Additional PPE required for specific chemicals, processes, or tasks.
Proper PPE must be worn at all times when required by company procedures and applicable safety requirements.
Position Authority & Restrictions
The Process Technician is not authorized to:
- Change chemistry set points or chemistry types.
- Make unauthorized chemical additions.
- Change the work schedule without approval.
- Change automated Waste Treatment set points on the computer.
- Deviate from established routine duties or procedures without approval from the Lab Technician or Chemistry Manager.
Key Performance Measures
Performance will be measured by:
- Maintaining chemical process charts within required ranges through accurate chemical additions.
- Supporting low machine reject rates.
- Completing weekly, monthly, and yearly maintenance monitoring requirements.
- Following all safety procedures and maintaining a safe work environment.
- Maintaining cleanliness and organization of assigned work areas.
- Maintaining the cleanliness and appearance of the Waste Treatment area.
- Completing required inspections, documentation, and process monitoring accurately and on time.
Qualifications & Skills
Education
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Experience
- 3 years of chemical handling experience preferred.
- Experience in plating, manufacturing, wastewater treatment, laboratory, or chemical processing environments is preferred.
Knowledge & Skills
- Basic computer skills.
- Ability to accurately enter and maintain process information.
- Ability to convert between U.S. customary and metric measurements.
- Ability to read and understand SDS/MSDS documentation.
- Ability to follow written procedures, checklists, manuals, and safety requirements.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to recognize abnormal process conditions and promptly report issues.
- Ability to work independently and effectively support the Lab Technician, Waste Treatment Operator, and Chemistry team.
