JOB SUMMARY

The Shipping & Receiving Technician is responsible for coordinating the movement, documentation, and accuracy of all inbound and outbound materials from the Gastonia facility. This hybrid role blends warehouse operations with logistics coordination, including working directly with Customer Care, third-party warehouses, approved waste disposal contractors and freight carriers to ensure timely, compliant, and efficient shipments. The ideal candidate has strong chemical handling experience, ERP proficiency (preferably SAP), and the ability to manage both hands-on warehouse work and administrative shipping functions.

Requirements

 Shipping, Coordination & Logistics

  • Arrange transportation of finished goods to third-party warehouses and direct-ship customers via Odyssey Logistics, FedEx, LTL carriers, and other partners. 
  • Arrange transportation of Hazardous (Haz)/Non-hazardous (Non-Haz) waste via approved waste disposal contractors.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the Plant, Customer Care, 3PL warehouse teams, and logistics vendors. 
  • Prepare tally sheets to maximize truck capacity and minimize transfers between the plant and 3PL. 
  • Prepare, package, and stage outbound shipments including drums, totes, pallets, hazardous materials and Hazardous (Haz)/Non-hazardous (Non-Haz) waste. 
  • Generate and verify all shipping documentation: BOLs, packing lists, labels, COAs, SDS links, waste manifest and carrier forms. 
  • Ensure all outbound shipments comply with DOT, OSHA, EPA, GHS, and internal safety regulations. 
  • Ship finished product/raw material samples accurately and promptly.
  • Ship Hazardous (Haz)/Non-hazardous (Non-Haz) waste.

Receiving & Material Handling

  • Receive raw materials, chemicals, packaging, and finished goods; verify quantities, lot numbers, COAs, and packaging integrity. 
  • Perform inspections for damage, contamination, or nonconformance and escalate to Quality or Procurement. 
  • Store materials per proper chemical compatibility, temperature requirements, and segregation rules. 
  • Put away materials using forklifts and warehouse equipment while maintaining 5S and housekeeping standards.
  • Serve as a backup to the Tank Truck Unloader – vacation/sick relief or as an additional resource during times when truck volume is high.

Warehouse Operations

  • Execute inventory controls including cycle counts, FIFO/FEFO rotation, establishing storage locations and labeling. 
  • Sort, store and track inventory of Non-hazardous (Non-Haz) waste.
  • Support periodic physical inventory counts and reconcile discrepancies. 
  • Assist Production with drum/tote filling, transfers, weighing, and labeling. 
  • Maintain warehouse cleanliness and compliance with chemical storage standards.

ERP/SAP Transactions

  • Perform goods receipt (GR/GI), inventory adjustments, shipment confirmations, and lot tracking in SAP or equivalent ERP. 
  • Print and reconcile labels, pick lists, staging sheets, and certificates. 
  • Maintain accurate digital documentation and traceability for all material movements.

Safety & Compliance

  • Handle hazardous materials in compliance with OSHA, DOT, GHS, and site safety policies. 
  • Use appropriate PPE, including respirators, chemical-resistant gloves, and protective clothing. 
  • Participate in safety trainings, meetings, incident reporting, and near-miss identification. 
  • Access SDSs to assist with spill responses. 
  • Perform duties safely and efficiently while maintaining awareness of chemical odors, equipment hazards, and material risks.
  • Perform weekly Hazardous Waste Inspections. 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • 2–4 years of warehouse, logistics, or shipping/receiving experience (chemical manufacturing strongly preferred). 
  • Experience handling hazardous/dangerous goods and interpreting SDS/GHS documentation. 
  • Experience with ERP systems; SAP preferred. 
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment with strong attention to detail and accuracy. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word. 
  • High school diploma required; some college preferred.

PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • SAP ERP experience 
  • HazMat/DOT shipping certification 
  • Forklift Operator Certification 
  • Experience in ISO 9001, GMP, or other regulated environments 
  • Experience with industrial manufacturing 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Lift, push, and pull 50–55 lbs routinely (drums, boxes, hoses). 
  • Stand and walk for long periods (8–12 hour shifts). 
  • Bend, stoop, crouch, and reach during material handling. 
  • Operate drum movers, forklifts, pallet jacks, hoists, stretch wrap machines and other warehouse equipment. 
  • Climb ladders or access elevated platforms for storage and inspections. 
  • Tolerate varying warehouse environments including heat, cold, humidity, and occasional outdoor exposure. 
  • Wear all required PPE (medical clearance required for respirator use). 
  • Ability to read (via corrected or uncorrected vision) labels, SDS, paperwork, and SAP screens. 
  • Work safely in moderately noisy industrial environments.
