Job Description:

Experienced mechanical engineer responsible for the design, analysis, integration, and support of mechanisms, structural hardware, and aircraft-installed mechanical systems for both new product development and sustainment efforts. Translates customer and product requirements into mechanical designs, specifications, verification plans, and test solutions. Works with general supervision and contributes technical leadership across design, analysis, testing, manufacturing transition, and field support activities.

 

 

Essential Functions:

  • Design and develop mechanisms, mechanical assemblies, and structural hardware for new product development and sustainment programs.
  • Translate customer and system requirements into mechanical specifications, design concepts, verification plans, and test procedures.
  • Perform mechanical design analysis, including structural and thermal assessments, to ensure compliance with performance, environmental, and reliability requirements.
  • Develop and execute verification and qualification testing, including test setup, instrumentation, data collection, analysis, and reporting.
  • Support troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and corrective action for design, test, production, and fielded product issues.
  • Work with CAD designers and cross-functional teams to develop models, drawings, tolerances, part documentation, and engineering change orders.
  • Perform structural assessments of mechanical installations and aircraft modifications, including load path evaluation, stress analysis, and substantiation of interfaces and attachments.
  • Support transition of designs into manufacturing, assembly, and installation, resolving technical issues and improving producibility and maintainability.
  • Contribute to repair, rework, replacement part design, and other aircraft life cycle sustainment activities.
  • May lead small projects or work packages and provide technical guidance or review support to less experienced engineers.

 

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, Materials Science Engineering, or related field and a minimum of 4 years of prior relevant experience; or Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior related experience.
  • Professional experience utilizing mechanical engineering principles with experience in mechanisms, structures, or electro-mechanical assemblies.
  • Professional experience applying structural mechanics principles, including free body diagrams, reaction forces, internal loads, and shear/moment analysis.
  • Experience supporting mechanical design, analysis, test, and product integration activities.

 

 

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Ability to work independently on moderately complex assignments with general supervision.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills and ability to work across functional teams.
  • Experience with CAD tools and engineering drawing/documentation practices.
  • Experience with structural analysis methods, including hand calculations and finite element analysis.
  • Familiarity with mechanism design, tolerance analysis, materials selection, and design for manufacturability/assembly.
  • Experience developing and executing mechanical or environmental test procedures.
  • Familiarity with transducers, instrumentation, data acquisition, and test data reduction.
  • Knowledge of fatigue, damage tolerance, and failure analysis principles.
  • Working knowledge of at least one programming or analysis tool for numerical evaluation or automation.
  • Experience supporting aircraft modifications, mechanical installations, or airborne mission equipment.
  • Experience processing engineering change orders and supporting configuration-controlled development.

 

 

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in Colorado state, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New York state, Cleveland Ohio, Vermont and Virginia is $76,500.00 - $142,500.00 This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
