Full-Time Finance Manager

Position Summary
The International Dark Sky Discovery Center (IDSDC) is seeking an experienced, detail-oriented
Full-Time Finance Manager to oversee the organization's financial operations, accounting,
budgeting, reporting, and financial controls.
This position is ideal for an experienced finance or accounting professional who enjoys working
in a small, mission-driven nonprofit environment and can serve as both a financial management
and accounting resource for the organization.
The Finance Manager will work closely with the CEO, Board of Directors, and staff to ensure
the IDSDC maintains accurate financial records, strong internal controls, sound financial
practices, and appropriate nonprofit financial reporting.
Essential Responsibilities
Accounting & Financial Operations
• Oversee day-to-day financial and accounting activities.
• Review monthly financial statements and ensure financial records are accurate and complete.
• Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, deposits, reconciliations, and credit card
activity.
• Monitor cash balances and cash flow.
• Ensure appropriate classification of revenues and expenses.
• Monitor restricted and unrestricted funds and ensure funds are used appropriately.
• Maintain internal financial controls and procedures.
• Coordinate payroll and related financial reporting.
Budgeting & Financial Management
• Develop and maintain the organization's annual operating budget in coordination with the
CEO and leadership.
• Monitor actual financial performance against the approved budget.
• Identify significant budget variances and communicate concerns to the CEO.
• Prepare cash-flow projections and financial forecasts.
• Assist the CEO and Board with financial planning and decision-making.
• Provide financial analysis related to staffing, programs, capital purchases, contracts, and
other significant expenditures.
Nonprofit Finance & Compliance
• Maintain financial practices consistent with applicable nonprofit accounting requirements.
• Track grants, sponsorships, donations, memberships, admissions, and other revenue
sources.
• Assist with grant financial reporting and compliance.
• Maintain appropriate documentation for financial transactions.
• Coordinate tax filings, the annual Form 990, and other required financial matters.
• Assist with any annual audit or financial review.
Board & Leadership Reporting
• Prepare monthly and quarterly financial reports for the CEO and Board of Directors.
• Provide clear explanations of financial results, trends, risks, and variances.
• Support the CEO with financial information and analysis.
• Alert the CEO to significant financial issues, unusual transactions, cash-flow concerns, or
compliance risks.
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Chief Executive Officer that
support the financial and operational needs of the organization.

Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field preferred.
• 3–5+ years of progressive accounting or financial management experience preferred.
• Experience with nonprofit accounting strongly preferred.
• Experience with budgeting, financial reporting, cash-flow forecasting, and internal controls.
• Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial statements.
• Experience with restricted and unrestricted nonprofit funds preferred.
• Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel or comparable spreadsheet
software.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage confidential financial information.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain financial information to non-financial
leaders.
CPA certification is preferred but not required.
Ideal Candidate
• The ideal candidate is a hands-on financial professional who can work independently in a
small organization and is comfortable performing both Finance Manager and Controller-level
responsibilities.
• The successful candidate will be able to move beyond simply maintaining the books and help
leadership understand:
• Where are we financially today? Where are we headed? Are we staying within budget? And
what financial issues do we need to address?
• Experience working with a nonprofit organization, charitable foundation, museum,
educational institution, cultural organization, or other mission-driven organization is highly
desirable.
Hours & Compensation
This is a full-time position at the IDSDC facility in Fountain Hills, AZ.
Compensation
Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
