What you will be doing as a MerchandisingIntern:Â Â
Â
Merchandising Interns will work with one of our Core teams, learning both the strategic and tactical aspects of merchandising and product flow. Interns will participate in various training courses at the beginning of the internship program for technical development, including Excel, MicroStrategy, Dunnhumby, and Nielsen. Â

The intern may also get exposure to other activities of the function, including:Â Â
Product flow concepts and the product life cycle processÂ
Collaboration with supply chain and logisticsÂ
Consumer insights, positioning metrics, and industry trends (Dunnhumby, Nielsen etc.)Â
Seasonal category business plansÂ
Validation of new item accuracy, item master set-up, and product outdatesÂ
Conceptual assortment planning, initial line plans, vendor product lines and selectionÂ
Ad development, proofing and resolving discrepanciesÂ
Collaboration with Digital Marketing & Category ManagementteamsÂ

Previous Merchandising Intern projects have included:Â
Analyze and optimize the GLP-1 on-demand pharmacy workflow to improve operational efficiency and patient digital experience.Â
Identify and address root causes of out-of-stock issues in key seasonal categories, such as Back-to-School and Electronics.Â
Evaluate Meijer’s SNAP program end-to-end to assess the impact of legislative changes, customer behavior, operations, marketing, and reporting.Â
Create a strategy to increase Baby & Kids Apparel penetration and sales through targeted merchandising, retail media, and basket-building opportunities. Â

Qualifications:Â
Progress toward a Bachelor's degree in merchandising, supply chain, business administration, finance, economics, retail, logistics or a related field.Â
Analytical and problem-solving skillsÂ
Ability to gather and interpret data from various reportingÂ
Knowledge of the retail industry, including category management and customer behaviorsÂ
Previous retail experience preferredÂ
Relationship Skills - can create positive working relationships with customers, team members, leadership, vendors, and office support staffÂ
Drive for results - has focus on the bottom lineÂ
Customer focus - dedicated to meeting expectations of internal and external customersÂ
Communication Skills - conveys the right information in writing and verbally    Â
Microsoft application experience, with the ability to learn additional systems and tools Â
