Position Summary
Gateway Regional Medical Center is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Chemistry Section Supervisor to oversee daily operations within our hospital laboratory's Chemistry department.
In this role, you will provide leadership and oversight for chemistry testing operations, ensuring accurate, timely, and reliable laboratory results that support patient diagnosis and treatment. You will be responsible for maintaining regulatory compliance, supporting staff development, troubleshooting complex testing and instrumentation issues, and ensuring the highest standards of quality and patient safety.

What You'll Do
- Supervise daily Chemistry section operations and laboratory personnel
- Ensure accurate and timely completion of chemistry testing
- Ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and laboratory safety standards
- Oversee quality control and quality assurance programs
- Troubleshoot testing systems, analyzers, instrumentation, and workflow issues
- Monitor laboratory equipment performance and coordinate maintenance as needed
- Support staff training, competency assessment, and professional development
- Assist with inventory management and ensure adequate supplies and reagents are available
- Review and monitor quality control results and take appropriate corrective action
- Participate in the evaluation and implementation of new testing methods, instrumentation, and technologies
- Maintain accurate documentation and laboratory records
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other clinical teams regarding laboratory testing and results
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and promote efficient laboratory workflows
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in chemical, physical, biological, clinical laboratory science, or medical technology
OR - Associate degree in clinical laboratory science or medical technology
- Completion of an accredited laboratory training program required
Certification
- Certification eligibility as MLS (ASCP), MT (AMT), MLT (ASCP), HEW, CLS (NCA), or equivalent
- Certification required within 12 months of eligibility per CLIA standards, if applicable
Experience
- Minimum of 2 years of high-complexity laboratory experience with a bachelor's degree
OR - Minimum of 4 years of high-complexity laboratory experience with an associate degree
- Previous Chemistry laboratory experience preferred
- Prior supervisory or leadership experience preferred
