Design Modeler

CP Eakes is a 30-year-old custom metal fabrication business with a rock-solid reputation built on the quality of our work and the expertise of our team. We are looking for an early-career draftsman or CAD designer who is hungry to do more. This is not a heads-down drafting role. You will work directly with customers and our production team to understand what they need, draw it, price it, and when the job is won, help make sure it gets built right. There is a heavy mentorship component for this role, so the ideal candidate will be excited to learn new every day and receiving ongoing coaching. Over time, you will see your estimates and drawings come to life on the shop floor and ship to real customers. If you have mechanical aptitude, a curiosity for how things are made, and a desire to grow beyond the drawing board — this role was built for you.

Duties

• Respond to inbound customer inquiries and develop a clear understanding of project scope and requirements
• Create detailed CAD drawings and shop-ready fabrication details from customer specifications, sketches, or verbal descriptions
• Develop accurate job estimates including material, labor, and lead time inputs in collaboration with the production team
• Problem-solve with customers and the shop team to find the right solution, not just the first one
• Communicate quotes and drawings clearly and professionally to customers; follow up to move opportunities forward
• Support project management for larger jobs with production to track status and keep customers informed as needed
• Maintain organized records of drawings, quotes, revisions, and awarded jobs
• Develop a working knowledge of CP Eakes' full capabilities including stainless steel fabrication, aluminum, trench drains, ornamental cladding, laser cutting, and OE parts
• Collaborate with the production team daily, learning from one of the most experienced fabrication shop in the Triad

Requirements

• 1–2 years of experience in CAD drafting, mechanical design, or a related technical role
• Demonstrated mechanical aptitude, i.e. you understand how things are made and want to learn more
• Proficiency in 3D CAD, Autodesk Inventor preferred; experience with AutoCAD a strong plus
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings
• Strong attention to detail as accuracy in drawing and quoting is non-negotiable
• Customer-facing comfort as this role talks to people, not just software
• Organized and accountable; able to manage multiple active quotes and projects without dropping details
