Position Summary

The Catalano Group in Washington University’s Department of Earth, Environmental, and Planetary Sciences is seeking a Research/Laboratory Technician in support of the CLEAN STL Project (https://public-exchange.org/washu/project/clean-stl/partnership/), organized through WashU’s Public Exchange. In collaboration with St. Louis community partners, the assistant will carry out soil sampling and laboratory analyses to evaluate lead exposure risks on residential and commercial properties, process resident-submitted soil samples, and contribute data to project findings reports. This is a time-limited role of up to one year, with the possibility of renewal for a second year contingent on funding.

This is a part-time role but there may be opportunities for more hours.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assist in conducting experiments.
  • Assist with miscellaneous projects and experiments.
  • Set up materials/labs.
  • Collect data, maintain files on research, and assist with data entry.
  • Assist with manuscript processing.
  • Order equipment and supplies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions:

  • Works in a laboratory environment. 
  • Must be physically able to wear protective equipment. 
  • Involves local fieldwork.
