Job DetailsJob Location: Hattiesburg - Hattiesburg, MS 39401Job Summary The Mental Health Counselor supports the mission of Student Affairs by providing counseling and support services that promote the emotional, mental, academic, and personal well-being of William Carey University students. Reporting to the Vice President for Student Affairs, this position assists students in navigating personal, developmental, and transitional challenges that may impact their academic success. Duties and Responsibilities  This job description does not state or imply that these are the only duties to be performed by the employee occupying this position.  The duties and responsibilities listed are essential job functions and exclude functions incidental to the performance of fundamental job duties. Assist the university in implementing the Mission Statement Assist the university in implementing the long-range institutional plan Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide appropriate assessment, treatment planning, and therapeutic services to the William Carey student population.  Participate in department needs and function as a member of an interdisciplinary team. Market and promote counseling services to the student population, including presentations at student events. Travel to Tradition campus during work week to provide services as needed. Maintain timely documentation of individualized treatment plans and progress notes. Provide a written record of individual progress through the therapeutic process. Provide community referral services as needed. Develop effective safety/crisis intervention plans that are person-centered and support strong therapeutic partnerships with individuals. Provide referral to emergency services for individuals when necessary.  Assume other duties as assigned by the Vice President for Student Affairs.  Exercise discretion, confidentiality, and independent judgment with respect to matters of significance.  QualificationsRequired Qualifications Master’s degree in a behavioral health field  Maintains a mental health clinical license (LCSW, LPC, or LMFT) Working knowledge of mental health symptoms and evidence-based treatment Excellent verbal and communication skills  Able to work independently, complete multiple assignments, meet deadlines, exercise good judgment, and demonstrate tactfulness and discretion Familiarity with Microsoft Office Professional software Must have U.S. Drivers License and a clear driving history Preferred Qualifications Experience in delivery of student and academic support services in a professional or post-secondary education environment Experience in providing services to a multicultural population  Physical Demands Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, to include computer, copier, and telephone Must possess mobility that allows on-site observations of students that are located outside of the office building Must have vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone Must be able to travel between campuses  Must be able to work required schedule in an on-campus environment
