Summary: Medical Assistants assist physicians with a variety of patient care activities and related services necessary in caring for the personal needs of patients. They provide information on patient conditions while assisting providers with medical equipment and patient vital signs. MAs perform a variety of ancillary and clerical duties to include vital signs, diagnostic procedures, EKGs, x-ray under the direction of provider, waived lab testing, injections, documentation, and patient education following established procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

•

Prepares patients for the health care visit by directing and/or accompanying them to the examining room/triage area; verifies patient identification by asking patient to state name and date of birth.

•

Verifies patient information by interviewing patient; reviewing and/or recording medical history; taking vital signs; confirming purpose of visit or treatment and completing ROS.

•

If asked, train current and new employees on day-to-day operations of clinic flow.

•

Supports patient care delivery by helping health care providers during examinations; preparing laboratory specimens; performing basic laboratory tests on the premises; disposing of contaminated supplies; administering medications on the premises; authorizing drug refills as directed; telephoning prescriptions to pharmacies; drawing blood; performing x-rays under direction of provider; taking electrocardiograms; removing sutures; changing dressings, performing drug screens; applying splints and other orthopedic devices; performing ear irrigations.

•

Records vital signs to include temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, oxygen saturation and other ancillary testing when ordered by a provider in accordance with skill level and state regulation.

•

Maintains medical records either written or electronically.

•

Observe patient conditions. Measures, records, and reports changes to provider.

•

Ensures the confidentiality and rights of patients, the confidentiality of the practice and department documents, and adheres to HIPAA Regulations.



Clinic Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-5:00 PM; Saturday-Sunday, 9:00 AM-1:00 PM. Shifts include rotating weekends and some holidays.
Full-time = 32-40 Hours
