The Medical Unit at Maria Parham is committed to going above and beyond for each patient to help them recover from illness.  We want your experience to be as healing as possible as a result of this high level of care. Our 25-bed unit provides comprehensive care and treatment for patients with a variety of medical conditions, such as pneumonia, stroke, cancer, pulmonary conditions and infections, wound infections and/or digestive system disorders.

The Surgical Unit is a 12-bed inpatient unit located on the 3rd floor of the patient tower. Our unit is staffed with nurses who are specifically trained for pre- and post-operative surgical patients. The nursing team in this unit is comprised of 100% registered nurses and certified nursing assistants with specialties in orthopedics, urology and general surgery. Our surgical unit is there for you before and after your procedure. Our nurses guide you through preparing for surgery and give you the attention needed to recover immediately following your procedure. Our surgical care unit takes pride in treating each patient like family.

Summary:

Provides direct patient care in the Medical Surgical Department using the nursing process in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice. 

Reports to: Director or Manager of Medical Surgical Department

 

How You’ll Contribute

A Registered Nurse (RN) who excels in this role:

  • Performs plan of care interventions, including medication administration, specimen collection, and clinical treatments.
  • Documents patient care and monitors patient condition, communicating with care team, physician, patient, and family.
  • Assists patients with activities of daily living, including hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.
  • Coordinates patient care across disciplines, including transfers, discharges, referrals, and support needs.
  • Provides patient and family education appropriate to age, culture, and circumstances.
  • Advocates for the physical and emotional well-being of patients.
  • Participates in performance improvement and continuing education.
  • Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

What we're looking for

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of North Carolina (or compact license)
  • Associate Degree in Nursing (ASN) from an accredited nursing program
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (required)
  • PALS, ACLS and Handle with Care Preferred
  • Active North Carolina RN license (single state) or compact required. If relocating, licensure must be updated to the new Primary State of Residence (PSOR) before employment begins
