Job Description:

Satair is looking for a Summer Intern - Customs Operations to join ourFinance team based in Herndon, VA. 

You will be part of the Finance team that works in partnership with the Warehouse Operations team to ensure seamless communication and execution of customs procedures. You will gain hands-on experience in a dynamic environment while supporting key initiatives that directly impact efficiency and business growth.

Meet the Team:

Our Finance team across the region manages critical financial, customs, and compliance topics for Satair. This  internship offers a unique opportunity to understand how complex customs regulations are translated into daily warehouse operations and managed by a centralized compliance team. 

Your Working Environment:

The Washington, D.C. metro area is home to multiple Airbus offices: In our nation’s capital you will find the Airbus Experience Center, a collection of interactive, multimedia exhibitions highlighting the extensive role the company plays in the aviation, aerospace and defense industries in the U.S. and around the world. The D.C. area is also home to our regional corporate headquarters – located adjacent to Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) - it makes flying in a breeze!

Program Highlights:

  • Participation in the Summer 2027 Intern Program: May 17, 2027 - August 6, 2027 (12 weeks)

  • Involvement in strategic projects aimed at improving operational efficiency, data integrity and standardizing procedures. 

  • Dedicated team to support your development throughout the program.

Your Challenges:

  • Liaison & Communication: Serve as the main point of contact between our Warehouse Operations team (handling inbound/outbound shipments and documentation) and the Customs Compliance team (responsible for audit, classification and regulatory filings).

  • Documentation Management: Assist in the review and organization of essential customs documentation, including import/export declarations, commercial invoices, packing lists, and classification.

  • Procedure Support: Help document, update, and standardize operational procedures related to customs processing to improve efficiency and reduce compliance risk.

  • Query Resolution: Facilitate the rapid resolution of day-to-day customs-related questions or issues arising from the warehouse floor (e.g., discrepancies in HTS codes, incomplete paperwork).

  • Data Integrity: Support the compliance team in auditing transaction data provided by the warehouse to ensure accuracy before official customs submission.

Your Boarding Pass:

  • HS Diploma/GED and currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree at an accredited college or university. 

  • Ability to work in the US without current or future need of visa sponsorship

  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English (verbal and written)

  • Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively interface with all levels of personnel and disciplines.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills—the ability to clearly translate technical requirements into actionable operational steps, and vice versa.

  • Capable of working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment both independently and collectively

  • Dependable, self-motivated and accessible

  • Able to prioritize concurrent assignments with guidance.

  • Strong computer background, including MS Excel and Google Suite application experience (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Gmail)

Preferred

  • Pursuing a degree (or recent graduate) in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, International Business, Law, or a related field.

  • Logistics/Trade Knowledge: Previous coursework or exposure to Supply Chain, Logistics, or International Business/Trade concepts.

  • Technical/Data Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Excel (e.g., VLOOKUPs, pivot tables) or exposure to systems like SAPor similar . 

  • Communication/Documentation: Experience in a role, project, or academic setting that required cross-functional communication or detailed procedure/process documentation.

  • A basic understanding of, or strong interest in, Customs regulations, Incoterms, and HTS classification is a significant plus.

Physical Requirements:

  • Onsite: 100%

  • Vision: able to see and read computer screen and other electronic equipment with screens, able to read documents, reports and engineering drawings. Required daily. 100%

  • Hearing: able to hear to participate in conversations in person and via teleconference or phone and to hear sounds on production floor including safety warnings or alarms. Required daily. 100%

  • Speaking: able to speak in conversations and meetings, deliver information and participate in communications. Required daily. 100%

  • Equipment Operation: able to operate most office and personal electronic equipment. Required daily. 100%

  • Carrying: able to carry documents, drawings, electronic equipment up to 10lbs. Daily. 20%

  • Lifting: able to lift documents, drawings, electronic equipment up to 10lbs. Daily 10%

  • Pushing / Pulling: able to push and pull small office furniture and some equipment and tools. Rarely required.10%

  • Sitting: able to sit for long periods of time in meetings, working on computer. Required daily. 90%

  • Squatting / Kneeling: able to squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items stored on low shelving. Required infrequently. 10%

  • Standing: able to stand for discussions in offices or on production floor. Required daily. 50%

  • Travel: able to travel independently and at short notice. 0%

  • Walking: able to walk through office and production areas including uneven surfaces. Required daily. 30%

  • Personal Protective Equipment required:  Required PPE includes, but is not limited to, Safety Shoes, Safety Glasses, Hearing Protection, Respirators/Masks, and/or Protective Gloves as required by site and/or customer site 100%

  • Personal Protective Equipment required: steel toed shoes are required for all shop floor visits; appropriate hearing/eye protection may also be required when visiting the shop floor. 100%

Pay Range:

Hourly range based on the required profile: $24 - $39.75/hour. Rate determined by type of degree program and year in school (Bachelors through Masters). Actual minimum and maximum may vary based on geographic differential. Individual pay is based on skills, experience, and other relevant factors.
