Position Summary

The Corporate Accountant is responsible for supporting the company’s accounting and financial reporting functions, with primary responsibility for general ledger accounting, month-end close, account reconciliations, financial analysis, and audit support. This position works closely with the Controller and other members of the Accounting and Finance team to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting and compliance with GAAP and company policies.
The Corporate Accountant will also partner with departments across the organization to resolve accounting matters, improve processes, and support the continued growth of the company.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Core Accounting & Month-End Close

  • Prepare and post monthly journal entries, including accruals, amortization, and other recurring and non-recurring entries.
  • Manage assigned components of the month-end close process, ensuring established reporting deadlines are met.
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts and intercompany transactions.
  • Maintain the general ledger, analyze transactions, and research and resolve discrepancies.
  • Review account activity for accuracy, completeness, and appropriate accounting treatment.
  • Prepare supporting schedules and account analyses as part of the monthly close processes.
  • Assist with fixed assets, prepaid expenses, accruals, and other areas of corporate accounting as assigned.
  • Support preparation of monthly financial statements and management reporting.

Compliance & Audit

  • Ensure accounting activities are performed in accordance with GAAP and established internal policies and procedures.
  • Prepare audit-ready workpapers, reconciliations, and supporting schedules for internal and external auditors.
  • Assist with annual financial statement audits and other compliance-related requests.
  • Maintain appropriate accounting documentation and internal controls.
  • Support the continued development and documentation of accounting policies, procedures, and controls.

Collaboration & Process Improvement

  • Act as a business partner to leadership by providing accurate and timely financial information to support decision-making.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to gather information and resolve accounting issues.
  • Work closely with Accounting team members to improve the efficiency and accuracy of the month-end close and reporting processes.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement, standardization, and automation to increase efficiency and strengthen controls.
  • Assist with accounting system improvements and other initiatives as the organization continues to grow.
  • Manage special projects and perform ad hoc financial analysis as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
  • Approximately 3–5+ years of progressive accounting experience preferred.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and general accounting principles.
  • Experience with general ledger accounting, journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end close.
  • Experience preparing audit schedules and supporting external audits.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively across departments and with various levels of management.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills required.
  • Experience with NetSuite or another ERP system preferred.
  • Experience within the energy, infrastructure, water, oil and gas, or related industries is a plus.
  • CPA or CPA-track experience is preferred but not required.

Physical Requirements: 
  • Able to sit for long periods of time; push, pull, lift, carry maximum weight 25lbs.
