USRA and the Science and Technology Institute are seeking a full-time Aerospace Engineer or Scientist. The candidate will be a highly qualified Aerospace Engineer or Scientist to support advanced research and analysis related to orbital dynamics and numerical simulations in cislunar space, including orbits around the Moon, and the near-Earth space environment. The successful candidate will contribute to technical studies, model development, large-scale simulations, and efforts focused on space sustainability and risk mitigation.

Experience: A minimum of 5 years of experience with a Master or 3 years of experience with a PhD with specialized expertise in orbital mechanics, flight dynamics, orbital evolution modeling and simulations. TS/SCI security clearance is required during employment.

Required Experience

  • Analytical or numerical modeling of orbital evolution of objects in cislunar space, including orbits around the Moon, and near-Earth space environment.
  • Code development for numerical simulations related to orbital mechanics or flight dynamics.
  • Processing and analyzing results from large-scale numerical simulations.
  • Publications in peer-reviewed journals.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Orbital mechanics or flight dynamics.
  • Expert-level proficiency in Fortran, MATLAB, Python.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. 
  • Ability to work independently and within multidisciplinary teams. 
  • Excellent technical communication and research documentation abilities.

Education: Masters or PhD in Aerospace Engineering, Planetary Sciences, or related discipline.

Working Conditions: This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, etc. extensive online usage. This is largely a sedentary role.

Travel: Several domestic trips per year are expected.

Remote Working: This position qualifies for remote work

TS/SCI security clearance is required during employment.
