JOB SUMMARY:   Obtain valid histology orders, process orders, and data entry. Process incoming reference lab samples ensuring proper patient identification and labeling. Follow applicable hospital policies and procedures for transporting/delivering of samples to laboratory. Provide excellent customer service on the phone and in person to all patients, providers, nurses and other medical staff. Work well under pressure. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Performs routine tasks in preparing histology and cytology specimens under general supervision and according to policies and procedures. 2. Receives, properly identifies, and labels tissue specimens for gross exam. 3. Processes paperwork such as pathology requisitions, demographics, and insurance associated with specimen accessioning. 4. Monitors histology consumables, stocks, and maintains supplies. 5. Fills orders for laboratory supplies requested by ancillary hospital areas and outside accounts. 6. Cleans, maintains, and organizes work areas such as refrigerators, glassware, and storage cabinets. 7. Rotate stock as appropriate. 8. Performs coverslipping, both manual and automated. 9. Stains cytology and H&E slides, both manual and automated, as required. 10. Prepares reagents for histology testing under the direct supervision of a histologist.
