The laboratories of IU Health offer some of the most comprehensive laboratory services in Indiana. Open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, the laboratories perform more than 19 million tests annually. In addition to IU Health, laboratory testing services are provided to hospitals and physicians across the country.

Location: Pathology Lab

Shift: Full Time, Evening Shift

  • 3:00 PM - 11:30 PM
  • Every third weekend rotation

Position Summary

Performs laboratory tests on patient specimens and provides information for the diagnosis, treatment, or prevention of diseases. Maintains records of performance and utilizes independent judgment to generate acceptable test results within quality control standards. May participate in research and development activities. May act as a key resource person for staff inside and outside of the department. Instructs students, laboratory and non-laboratory staff on laboratory procedures and techniques. Performs all tasks according to standard operating procedures. May work on the development and modification of procedures and assumes additional responsibilities as outlined by management or the laboratory director.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or a related science required.
  • One (1) year of relevant experience required.
  • Certification or eligibility for board certification through ASCP, AMT, NCA, ACHI, or an equivalent certifying agency required.
  • Certification must be obtained within 12 months of employment. Failure to achieve certification may result in a downgrade to the Technician-Medical Laboratory position until certification is obtained, or separation of employment based on business needs.
  • Knowledge of various complex and lengthy laboratory techniques and procedures required.
  • Knowledge of specialized testing equipment and routine maintenance procedures required.
  • Ability to maintain quality control and other laboratory records required.
  • Ability to use a computer to enter and retrieve test results required.
  • Strong analytical skills to make quantitative and qualitative observations required.
  • Ability to work independently while handling constant interruptions and concurrent tasks required.
  • Knowledge of all laboratory safety regulations and protocols required.
