What to Expect

You will manage and process payroll for multiple clients. As a Payroll Specialist you will serve as a knowledgeable resource who maintains up-to-date knowledge of local, state, and federal requirements relating to payroll processing for school districts and non-profit agencies. You will work with internal and external staff to implement industry best practices. 


What You’ll Do

As Payroll Specialist you will: 

  • Support implementation and review of payroll processing systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions, including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions. 
  • Perform client payroll processing, payroll tax, and other liability accounts reconciliation – EFTPS (Tax Payment System), Form 941, and W2s. 
  • Perform accurate and timely processing of payroll updates, including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates. 
  • Support monthly premium statement reviews for all group insurance, assisting in balancing and submitting billing statements to accounting for payment. 
  • Support payroll direct deposit, physical checks, and special runs for employees. 
  • Support processes for balancing payroll earnings and deductions; prepare transfer requests of funds and deposits. 
  • Receive and audit time sheets for employees. 
  • Prepare and submit payroll reports and forms, including those required by IRS, TWC, Texas Retirement System (TRS), other statutory deductions, etc. 
  • Maintain physical and computerized files, including payroll records. 
  • Support audits by providing records and documentation to auditors. 
  • Communicate with Human Resource department, district staff, and employees to ensure accuracy of information reported; resolve payroll problems and inquiries. 
  • Backup for DSS accountants – requisitions/PO’s, check writing, cash management, bank reconciliations, grants reporting, and ad hoc financial reporting as necessary. 
  • Assists month end closing and financial statements analysis and reporting as necessary. 
  • Other duties as assigned.


What You’ll Bring

  • 3+ Years Experience
  • Systems experience with Skyward, Ascender, and/or QuickBooks (Recommended)
  • Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, HR, or equivalent preferred
  • Experience in non-profit fund accounting preferred 
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively and deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals 
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team in a collaborative environment
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence and apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of constituents or employees of the organization
  • Ability and/or willingness to learn to use and understand Microsoft Office for spreadsheets, letters, and other written communication in order to effectively communicate information with employees, administration and the Board

 

Compensation and Benefits

Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
