Advanced Practice Provider (NP/PA/CNM/APP) - Certified Nurse Midwife CNM, OBGYN Department.

UVA Health is seeking a Certified Nurse Midwife to join a growing OBGYN team where midwifery care is valued, visible, and deeply connected to the needs of the community. This is an opportunity to practice full-scope midwifery in a high-resource academic medical center while caring for patients across prenatal, labor and delivery, postpartum, and gynecologic settings. 

As part of UVA Health’s OBGYN Department, you will join an established midwifery practice group expanding from nine to ten midwives to support increasing delivery volumes and expanded in-house coverage. This role is designed for a CNM who is energized by autonomous practice, thoughtful collaboration, clinical complexity, and teaching the next generation of clinicians. 

The Role 

In this full-time role, you will provide comprehensive midwifery care across outpatient clinic and inpatient labor and delivery environments. You will manage your own patient panel, support patients through pregnancy and birth, and collaborate with OB-GYN physicians, Maternal Fetal Medicine specialists, nursing teams, social workers, NICU teams, newborn teams, and community doulas. 

The schedule averages 40 hours per week and includes clinic, labor and delivery coverage, nights, and weekends. Scheduling is approached with attention to work-life balance, team collaboration, and family needs, while supporting the clinical demands of a growing practice. 

This is a clinically rich position for a midwife who enjoys both independence and team-based care. The practice supports patients with a wide range of needs, including higher-acuity obstetrical care, patients affected by social determinants of health, Medicaid and financial assistance populations, commercially insured patients, refugee populations, Spanish-speaking patients, and patients requiring Pashtu or Dari interpreter services. 

In an average day, you may: 

• Provide full-scope midwifery care, including prenatal visits, labor and delivery management, postpartum care, gynecologic care, and patient education 

• Independently manage midwifery patient panels once established competencies are achieved 

• Conduct OB and GYN visits in the outpatient setting 

• Provide inpatient labor and delivery coverage, including nights and weekends shared equitably across the team 

• Co-manage higher-acuity pregnancies with Maternal Fetal Medicine providers 

• Collaborate closely with physicians, specialists, nurses, social workers, NICU teams, newborn teams, and doulas 

• Teach residents and medical students in an academic clinical environment 

• Participate in patient care planning and interdisciplinary decision-making
