Our client is a full-service 401(k) recordkeeper, third-party administrator (TPA), and registered investment advisor (RIA). They partner with plan sponsors, advisors, and payroll providers to deliver accurate, compliant, and efficient retirement plan administration. They aim to deliver a white-glove service to our clients and plan participants through fast, high-quality responses and proactive communication, leveraging technology to empower their people to do their best work.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

The Senior Plan Consultant is a senior technical resource responsible for the independent administration and compliance oversight of a portfolio of qualified retirement plans. This role serves as a subject matter expert in retirement plan compliance, plan design, and regulatory requirements, with primary responsibility for annual compliance testing, plan projections, plan document and amendment preparation, correction of operational and compliance failures, Form 5500 and related tax filings, and the administration of Multiple Employer Plans (MEPs) and Pooled Employer Plans (PEPs).

Working with a high degree of autonomy, the Senior Plan Consultant manages their own caseload, researches complex technical issues, and develops compliant solutions while collaborating with internal teams to ensure timely and accurate plan administration. This position has limited direct client interaction and primarily partners with Relationship Managers when specialized technical expertise is required for complex client discussions. The Senior Plan Consultant may also provide guidance, training, and oversight to junior team members and support staff as needed.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Independently manages the technical administration and compliance responsibilities for an assigned portfolio of qualified retirement plans
  • Performs annual compliance testing, including ADP/ACP nondiscrimination testing, top-heavy testing, IRC §§ 402(g), 415, 410(b), and 401(a)(4) testing, including general testing and cross-testing, utilizing FT William compliance software
  • Prepares plan projections and develops alternative plan design scenarios to help optimize employer contribution strategies while maintaining regulatory compliance
  • Determines participant eligibility, vesting, and employer contribution allocations, including integrated, new comparability, and cross-tested allocations
  • Prepares, reviews, and maintains plan documents, amendments, and other required plan-related documentation
  • Prepares and reviews Forms 5500, 8955-SSA, and other required regulatory filings and supporting schedules.
  • Performs trust accounting and reconciles plan assets for each plan year
  • Identifies operational and compliance failures and develops appropriate correction methods, including corrections under the IRS Employee Plans Compliance Resolution System (EPCRS) and the DOL Voluntary Fiduciary Correction Program (VFCP) and Delinquent Filer Voluntary Compliance Program (DFVCP)
  • Serves as a technical resource for Relationship Managers and internal staff and participates in client meetings when specialized technical expertise is needed
  • Utilizes Schwab Retirement Technologies (SRT) Plan Sponsor Portal, FT Williams software, and uses advanced Microsoft Excel functions to analyze plan data, validate calculations, and support compliance testing, reporting, and regulatory filings
  • Provides technical guidance, mentoring, and training to Assistant Administrators and other team members.
  • Maintains current knowledge of ERISA, the Internal Revenue Code, related retirement plan regulations, and industry best practices through continuing education and professional development.

 

WHAT YOU NEED:

  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience administering qualified retirement plans, preferably in a Third-Party Administrator (TPA) environment
  • Strong working knowledge of ERISA, the Internal Revenue Code, and regulations governing qualified retirement plans
  • Demonstrated proficiency with FT Williams retirement plan compliance software
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams

PREFERRED SKILLS:

  • Experience administering Defined Benefit and Cash Balance retirement plans is preferred
  • Experience administering Multiple Employer Plans (MEPs), Pooled Employer Plans (PEPs), 403(b), and governmental or non-governmental 457(b) retirement plans is preferred
  • ASPPA credentials such as QKA, QKC, QPA, CPC, or equivalent professional designations are preferred. Progress toward obtaining these credentials is a plus
