Description

 

Leading Freight Forwarder / NVOCC/ Customs House Broker/ Tank Container Operator, with locations in 24 countries and over 3000 employees strong, is seeking a highly motivated and organized individual to fill the position of Import Supervisor in our Jersey City, NJ Office.  


The ideal candidate is a strong leader with freight forwarding and customs processing experience who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is committed to operational excellence and customer satisfaction 


What You’ll Do:  

  • Supervise and support the daily activities of the Import Department. 
  • Monitor workloads and distribute assignments to ensure timely and accurate processing. 
  • Train and develop team members on import regulations, systems, procedures, and best practices. 
  • Conduct performance management activities, including feedback and employee development. 
  • Oversee import shipments from arrival through final delivery. 
  • Ensure accurate preparation and processing of customs clearance documentation. 
  • Coordinate customs entry filings, ISF filings, and other government agency requirements. 
  • Obtain Customs and other regulatory releases and ensure timely cargo movement. 
  • Arrange transportation, delivery, warehousing, and related logistics services. 
  • Maintain compliance with U.S. Customs regulations and applicable domestic and international shipping requirements. 
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for customers regarding import shipments. 
  • Proactively communicate shipment status updates and resolve issues promptly. 
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external customers. 
  • Ensure service commitments are met while delivering an exceptional customer experience. 
  • Negotiate rates with trucking companies, warehouses, carriers, and service providers. 
  • Respond to customer and agent rate requests. 
  • Work closely with accounting to resolve billing discrepancies and ensure accurate invoicing. 
  • Support department profitability through efficient operational management. 
  • Ensure adherence to company policies, quality standards, and security programs. 
  • Maintain accurate shipment records and tracking information. 
  • Support ISO, C-TPAT and Responsible Care compliance initiatives. 
  • Promote continuous improvement, operational efficiency, and process excellence. 

Requirements

 

What We're Looking For:  

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience. 
  • 4+ years of experience in freight forwarding, import, customs brokerage, or international logistics. 
  • Strong knowledge of import operations and U.S. Customs regulations. 
  • Previous leadership or supervisory experience preferred. 
  • Excellent communication, customer service, problem-solving, and organizational skills. 
  • Strong customer-facing experience, with a proven ability to build relationships, communicate effectively, and deliver exceptional service to internal and external stakeholders

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Outlook.
