Summary

Under the supervision of the Fitness Superintendent, the Facility Custodian is directly responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the Inwood Athletic Club facility and building.

 

Essential Duties

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential duties.

  • Performs general cleaning of all areas of Inwood Athletic Club
  • Uses a variety of cleaning equipment and materials including a pressure washer to sweep, mop, vacuum, shampoo, polish, wax both carpets and floors
  • Clean and sanitize restroom facilities, drinking fountains, restroom sinks, mirrors, urinals and toilets
  • Collecting and taking out trash and recycling
  • Replenish disposable supplies such as toilet tissue, soap, and paper towels
  • Ensure spaces are prepared for the next day by taking out trash, tidying furniture and dusting surfaces
  • Clean up after accidents or illnesses
  • Maintain cleaning tools, equipment, and materials in proper condition; store supplies and equipment after use
  • Wash and wipe down windows, walls, walkways and surrounding grounds
  • Report to the Maintenance Supervisor any repairs and supplies needed
  • Maintain all records, reports and checklists as requested
  • Maintain cleanliness of all areas throughout the facility
  • Maintain pertinent procedures in opening and closing the facility
  • Perform all other related activities and duties as assigned.


Hours

Part time hours which may include days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Work environment

Employee’s general work area indoors is a smoke-free environment with controlled temperature and fluorescent lighting. Employee may be exposed to noise distractions from employees, participants, or equipment operation in adjacent work areas. Employee may be exposed to fumes from cleaning chemicals.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands, to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, balance, and in sometimes bend/stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and sometimes lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. May need to occasionally use/climb a 6’ ladder.

 

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma, GED, or suitable equivalent.

 

Additional eligibility requirements

  • Proven experience as custodian, janitor or in a similar role preferred.
  • Knowledge of use and maintenance of industrial cleaning equipment and appliances preferred
  • Knowledge of safe disposal of chemical liquids and other hazardous components preferred
  • Current CPR and AED certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire
