FIRE EXPLORING:

A joint venture with “Learning for Life”, the Explorer Program was established in 1975 to develop and foster a relationship between young adults and the communities they live in. Explorers value their experiences in this program and many eventually join the ranks of the fire service or pursue leadership roles in other fields.
Once you become an Explorer, you will attend meetings, participate in physical activities, and volunteer at community and Department events.

Exploring was designed so that young adults are able to gather real life experiences and insight into a possible career.  Many organizations have stepped forward and made these experiences available to youth in their community.  With this philosophy in mind, North County Fire Protection District has tried to answer the public interest and desire to have such a program.

North County Fire Protection District has created a program that provides real life experiences, hands on training, and classroom education. Our purpose is to not only introduce the fire service to the Explorer, but assist them to be successful in life. Areas of focus are: Career opportunities, leadership experience, life skills, service learning, and character education.  This program is strictly volunteer, from the Explorers to the instructors who will invest in them.  Explorer Post 2740 has a tremendous track record of success.   Many of our past Explorers have gone on to becoming fulltime Firefighters!

REQUIREMENTS:

Applicants must be between the ages of 15-20.  This Explorer Post meets every Tuesday night from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. To receive the most from the Explorer Post, we encourage to attend all meetings. If an Explorer accrues 1 unexcused absence, termination from the program will result.   Tardiness will not be tolerated.  While the Explorer is in high school, they will be required to maintain a 2.5 grade point average to remain in the Post.  Proof of GPA will be mandatory.

PARENTS:

Parents will be invited to attend a Parent’s Night in the month of December. This is an opportunity for you to meet your child’s Explorer Post Advisor(s) and learn more about this Explorer Post.

FEE:

There is an initial one time entry fee of $100.00 per Explorer, once accepted into the Explorer Post.  This is a materials fee for the Explorer.
