About the Role:

The Surface Maintenance Mechanic plays a critical role in ensuring the operational integrity and safety of surface equipment and infrastructure within industrial or mining environments. This position involves performing routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs on mechanical systems to minimize downtime and extend equipment lifespan. The mechanic will collaborate closely with engineering and operations teams to troubleshoot issues and implement effective solutions. A strong focus on safety protocols and compliance with regulatory standards is essential to protect personnel and assets. Ultimately, the role contributes to maintaining efficient production processes by ensuring all surface machinery operates reliably and safely.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Proven experience as a mechanic or maintenance technician in an industrial or mining setting.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to work in various weather conditions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Technical certification or diploma in mechanical maintenance or related field.
  • Experience with welding and fabrication.
  • Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
  • Knowledge of safety standards such as OSHA or MSHA.

Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose mechanical failures and perform timely repairs to minimize operational disruptions.
  • Maintain detailed maintenance records and report on equipment status and repair activities.
  • Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to develop maintenance schedules and improve equipment reliability.
  • Adhere strictly to safety guidelines and regulatory requirements to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Operate hand and power tools, welding equipment, and diagnostic instruments as needed.
  • Assist in the installation and commissioning of new surface equipment.
