About the role

The Field Systems Engineer is responsible for onsite IT support and operational technology services at the Distribution Center, serving as the primary technical resource for warehouse, endpoint, mobility, and infrastructure-related technologies. This role ensures the stability, availability, deployment, and support of business-critical systems through a combination of onsite and remote support activities, including endpoint management, mobility solutions, infrastructure support, incident response, technology lifecycle management, and operational engineering. 

The position provides hands-on technical support for Distribution Center operations while partnering with Remote Operations, Desktop Engineering, Infrastructure, Networking, Service Desk, and business stakeholders to resolve complex technical issues, execute technology deployments, support operational initiatives, and maintain a reliable technology environment. The Field Systems Engineer also leads local implementation activities, supports enterprise technology rollouts, coordinates vendor and support resources, and contributes to continuous improvement efforts that enhance service delivery, operational efficiency, and technology reliability across the organization. 

Responsibilities

Distribution Center and Field Technology Support 

  • Serve as the primary onsite IT resource for the Distribution Center, providing support for business-critical systems and operational technologies. 
  • Provide onsite and remote troubleshooting, incident response, escalation support, and operational assistance for Distribution Center technology environments. 
  • Diagnose and resolve complex hardware, software, operating system, application, and infrastructure issues affecting Distribution Center operations. 
  • Act as a technical escalation point for incidents requiring onsite analysis, troubleshooting, and vendor coordination. 

Desktop Engineering and Endpoint Management 

  • Deploy, configure, image, maintain, upgrade, and support desktops, laptops, tablets, handheld devices, printers, and related endpoint technologies. 
  • Execute endpoint lifecycle management activities, including technology refresh programs, operating system upgrades, hardware deployments, software installations, asset recovery, and equipment replacements. 
  • Support endpoint management platforms and device administration activities, including Microsoft Intune, Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (SCCM), SOTI MobiControl, and related management technologies. 
  • Perform endpoint testing, deployment validation, compliance verification, and operational readiness activities. 

Mobility, RF, and Warehouse Technology Support 

  • Deploy, stage, enroll, configure, and support warehouse RF devices, Zebra handhelds, scanners, mobile devices, and SOTI-managed technology solutions. 
  • Administer and troubleshoot mobile device management platforms and mobility solutions supporting warehouse operations. 
  • Support operational systems and technologies used within Distribution Center environments to ensure minimal disruption to business processes. 
  • Partner with business stakeholders and technical teams to support technology pilots, testing activities, and production implementations. 

Infrastructure and Site Technology Support 

  • Troubleshoot and support network, wireless, RF, printer, scanning, telecom, voicemail, paging, intercom, and collaboration technologies used within the Distribution Center. 
  • Assist Infrastructure and Network Engineering teams with site implementations, technology upgrades, connectivity troubleshooting, and infrastructure-related support activities. 
  • Coordinate UPS maintenance, testing, repair, replacement, and preventive maintenance activities to maintain availability of critical Distribution Center technologies. 
  • Support onsite installation, validation, and maintenance of technology infrastructure and operational equipment. 

Incident, Change, and Operational Support 

  • Manage and support ServiceNow incidents, requests, problem investigations, escalations, service tasks, and operational support activities. 
  • Participate in Change Advisory Board (CAB) processes, supporting change planning, implementation, testing, validation, rollback activities, and post-change verification. 
  • Coordinate major incident response activities and support service restoration efforts during operational disruptions. 
  • Collaborate with Remote Operations, Service Desk, and engineering teams to ensure timely issue resolution and service continuity. 

Project Delivery and Technology Deployments 

  • Support Distribution Center technology rollouts, implementations, pilots, infrastructure upgrades, and enterprise technology initiatives. 
  • Perform deployment preparation, staging, testing, onsite implementation, stabilization, and post-deployment support activities. 
  • Coordinate field support requirements for IT teams, vendors, and project resources during implementations and technology changes. 
  • Validate deployment outcomes and ensure successful operational transition and support readiness. 

Vendor Management and Cross-Functional Collaboration 

  • Coordinate with technology vendors and internal support teams, including SOTI, Manhattan, Infrastructure, Networking, Service Desk, Remote Operations, Desktop Engineering, and other technology organizations. 
  • Facilitate vendor support activities, hardware repairs, maintenance coordination, and issue resolution efforts. 
  • Partner with business and technology stakeholders to support operational initiatives, project execution, and technology improvements. 

Documentation and Continuous Improvement 

  • Maintain technical documentation, standard operating procedures, support processes, asset records, configuration information, and knowledge articles. 
  • Identify recurring technical issues, participate in root cause analysis efforts, and recommend solutions that improve reliability, supportability, and operational efficiency. 
  • Contribute to process improvements, support standardization, automation opportunities, and operational best practices. 
  • Maintain awareness of emerging technologies and recommend enhancements that improve the support and reliability of Distribution Center technology environments. 

Knowledge, skills & abilities requirements

  • 1-2 years in related fields
  • High School Education, Technical certifications or 2 + years’ experience preferred. 
  • Windows Operating Systems and Microsoft 365

Working conditions & physical requirements

  • Position is based on site at the Distribution Center near Justin Texas:  15453 Wolff Crossing, Justin TX, 76247 
  • Must be available to support off-hours activities, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required for maintenance, upgrades, projects, deployments, and critical incident response. 
  • Occasional travel may be required. 
  • The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting and training rooms, retail stores, and residences or commercial vehicles, e.g., use of safe work practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, observance of fire regulations and traffic signals, etc. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated.
  • The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items such as papers, files, books, small parts; using a keyboard, driving an automobile, etc. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
