A Corporate Development & Strategic Investments Associate position is available at Garney. The Corporate Development & Strategic Investments Associate supports the company’s strategic growth and capital activities. This role will work across corporate mergers & acquisitions (M&A), venture and growth investments, equity and debt financing for public-private-partnerships (P3), and private development financing projects.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

 

  • Work directly with senior leadership to support the evaluation and execution of transactions, including acquisitions, minority operating and passive investments, and strategic partnerships.
  • Build and maintain financial models across transaction types, including valuation, accretion/dilution, synergy quantification, and entry-multiple sensitivity analysis; underwrite expected return profiles (IRR, MOIC) and downside scenarios for all investment opportunities
  • Coordinate financial, commercial, legal, and operational due diligence workstreams across internal teams and external advisors
  • Prepare Investment Committee memoranda, deal summaries, and executive presentations supporting decision-making
  • Evaluate private investment opportunities across venture capital, growth equity, infrastructure-adjacent, and strategic platforms across M&A, IPO, and secondary exit pathways
  • Monitor active investments and prepare quarterly portfolio reporting on performance, risks, and value-creation initiatives; engage with portfolio company management to track performance against investment thesis
  • Support development, evaluation, and funding of P3 and privately financed projects; build and maintain project finance models incorporating construction draws, debt service (DSCR, LLCR), and capital structure scenarios; assess equity, mezzanine, and debt structures
  • Support post-close integration planning and participate in value creation workstreams alongside operations leadership

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

 

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Economics, or a related field
  • 2–5 years of relevant experience in investment banking, private equity, corporate development, or a related field
  • Demonstrated experience supporting deal execution across M&A, investments, or financings
  • Strong financial modeling skills, including valuation methodologies (DCF, comparable companies, precedent transactions), return analysis (IRR, MOIC), and scenario and sensitivity analysis
  • Familiarity with capital structures, including equity, mezzanine, and debt; exposure to project finance concepts (DSCR, LLCR) is a plus
  • Experience in M&A, leveraged finance, or infrastructure/project finance
  • Experience in construction, infrastructure, or project-based industries is a plus
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear, concise materials for executive and Investment Committee audiences
  • Sound analytical judgment with the ability to develop a well-reasoned investment recommendation
  • Ability to manage multiple workstreams and deadlines simultaneously
  • High degree of discretion in handling confidential financial and business information
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in financial work product
