General Purpose: Performs semi-skilled, skilled and administrative work in the maintaining the vehicles and mechanical equipment of the City. Also performs the essential duties and responsibilities of the General Maintenance, Grade 4 classification as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

(A) Graduation from high school or GED equivalent
(B) Two (2) years of related experience 

Necessary knowledge, skills and abilities:

(A) Thorough knowledge of automotive mechanics; considerable knowledge of gas and diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulics, fire pumps and valves, generators, and welding' price trends and grades or quality of materials and equipment; working knowledge of hazards and safety precautions common to municipal maintenance and repair activities; working knowledge of the practices, methods, materials and tools used in modern equipment maintenance.  
(B) Skill in operation of listed tools and equipment including appropriate computer skills
(C) Ability to establish and maintain effective preventive maintenance programs, policies and procedures; ability to maintain effective cost containment and purchasing procedures; ability to carry out assigned projects to their completion
(D) Ability to work safely; ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; ability to read and interpret construction plans; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, other departments and the public
(E) Valid State's Driver's license  and CDL certification
(F) State of Michigan certification as master mechanic or other combination of State of Michigan mechanic certifications
