Position: Small Group Training Instructor

POSITION SUMMARY

Fitness Factory Health Clubs is seeking an energetic, knowledgeable, and highly motivated Small Group Training Instructor to lead engaging, results-driven training experiences for groups of members.

The Small Group Training Instructor is responsible for creating a welcoming, motivating, and professional environment where clients feel supported, challenged, and accountable. This position combines the energy of group training with the individualized coaching and attention of personal training.

The ideal candidate is passionate about fitness, enjoys working with people, communicates exceptionally well, and understands how to create strong client relationships that drive attendance, results, retention, and referrals.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Small Group Training Delivery

  • Lead safe, structured, and engaging small group training sessions.
  • Deliver workouts that are challenging, scalable, and appropriate for different fitness levels.
  • Provide individualized coaching, exercise modifications, and technique corrections within the group setting.
  • Demonstrate proper exercise form, movement patterns, and training techniques.
  • Maintain high energy, professionalism, and enthusiasm throughout every session.
  • Ensure sessions begin and end on time.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and professional training environment.
2. Client Experience & Relationship Building

  • Create a welcoming environment where every client feels recognized and valued.
  • Learn clients' names, goals, fitness history, preferences, and limitations.
  • Build strong relationships with SGT members and create a sense of community.
  • Celebrate client milestones, accomplishments, and progress.
  • Provide encouragement and accountability outside of training sessions when appropriate.
  • Deliver an exceptional experience that encourages clients to remain engaged with the program.
3. Client Assessment & Goal Setting

  • Participate in new-member SGT orientations.
  • Assist with fitness assessments and goal-setting conversations when appropriate.
  • Establish clear expectations for training, attendance, nutrition, recovery, and accountability.
  • Help clients understand how the SGT program supports their individual goals.
  • Track and communicate client progress throughout their training journey.
4. Programming & Coaching

  • Follow established SGT programming and training standards.
  • Prepare appropriately for each session before clients arrive.
  • Modify exercises based on individual fitness levels, movement quality, and training goals.
  • Incorporate strength, conditioning, mobility, core training, functional movement, and cardiovascular training as appropriate.
  • Maintain awareness of client fatigue, technique, and exercise readiness.
  • Communicate any client concerns or programming needs to the Fitness Manager.
5. Technology & Client Engagement

  • Utilize approved club technology and software, including ABC Trainerize and related platforms.
  • Maintain accurate client attendance and training records.
  • Assign or update workouts and appropriate training materials when required.
  • Communicate with clients through approved platforms.
  • Utilize client progress data to improve coaching and accountability.
  • Encourage clients to remain engaged with their workouts and program between sessions.
6. Attendance, Retention & Accountability

  • Monitor client attendance and engagement.
  • Follow up appropriately with clients who miss sessions.
  • Identify clients who may be disengaging from the program and communicate concerns to the Fitness Manager.
  • Help create a strong team environment that encourages clients to consistently attend.
  • Participate in progress reviews and client retention initiatives.
  • Support membership and SGT renewal conversations when appropriate.
7. Sales & Business Development

  • Promote the value and benefits of Small Group Training through authentic conversations with members.
  • Identify potential SGT prospects on the gym floor.
  • Participate in club events, workshops, demonstrations, and member engagement activities.
  • Work collaboratively with the Front Desk and Fitness Manager to generate SGT leads.
  • Conduct complimentary demonstrations or introductory sessions when assigned.
  • Encourage referrals and help create opportunities for program growth.
  • Represent the SGT program professionally throughout the facility.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • Current nationally recognized Personal Training or Fitness Certification.
  • 3+ years of personal training, group training, or coaching experience.
  • Experience working with small groups of 4–8 clients.
  • Experience with strength and conditioning programming.
  • Experience using fitness technology and client-management platforms.
  • Experience with client retention and fitness sales.
  • Additional certifications in strength & conditioning, nutrition, mobility, corrective exercise, or specialized training.
  • Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Sport & Fitness Management, or related field is preferred but not required.
