This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for an enthusiastic, self-motivated, Intermediate Geochemist for our Lakewood, CO office.   Be involved in projects with our Earth & Environment Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges.
In this role, the selected candidate will support geochemistry projects with an emphasis on environmental geochemistry for projects related to  coal combustion residuals (CCRs).  

Your Impact

  • Providing support for geochemical projects through conducting site characterizations, evaluations of geochemical data sets, performing natural attenuation evaluations, and developing alternate source demonstrations, primary for the CCR industry, but also for the mining and industrial sectors as needed.
  • Conducting geochemical investigation and characterization studies associated with groundwater, surface water, wastes, and geological materials
  • Validating, management and analysis of geochemical data
  • Conducting geochemical modeling
  • Preparing reports and presentations and participating in client meetings under the supervision of senior colleagues
  • Demonstrating a “Safety-First” focus
  • Working with multi-disciplinary teams to execute project work.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
     

Who You Are
Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Geochemistry, or related field. 
  • 1 to 3 years of experience working as a Geochemist or adjacent professional discipline
  • Strong coursework or experience in aqueous chemistry and/or low-temperature geochemistry 
  • Strong background in field geology, including monitoring well installations, borehole logging, and groundwater collection for metals analysis
  • Knowledge of geology, geochemistry, hydrochemistry, mineralogy, hydrology, and/or chemical hydrogeology with a strong quantitative background 
  • Experience with data manipulation and compilation, including experience with data management and statistical tools (e.g., Excel, Python, R)
  • Experience with water quality and geochemical modeling using common codes (e.g., PHREEQC, Geochemist’s Workbench, MIN3P, etc.)
  • Experience producing written reports and presentations to convey technical information Capable self-leadership with attention to detail, and prioritization of responsibilities in a collaborative work environment.
  • Ability to work independently with supervision, as well as part of a team 
  • Occasional travel, including international, may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
  • Eligible to work permanently in the United States, possess a valid driver's license, and pass a pre-employment physical (including drug screening) and criminal background check
     

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Graduate Degree 
  • Experience in field data collection
  • Experience with data validation techniques for environmental data
  • Experience in the CCR industry
  • Understanding of laboratory analytical methods
  • HAZWOPER 40hr Operations level qualified or recertification eligible

Compensation:
Expected Salary (Colorado only): $58,500 - $82,400

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and/or offer for this position within the state of Colorado, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
