Maintenance Assistant

Sparrow Company is searching for a dependable and mechanically inclined Maintenance Assistant to support maintenance operations at a chile manufacturing facility. This position assists the maintenance team with routine equipment maintenance, repairs, cleaning, and facility upkeep to help ensure production equipment operates safely and efficiently. The ideal candidate will have some experience in manufacturing, maintenance, construction, or a similar hands-on environment and be comfortable working around industrial machinery and production equipment.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

• Assist Maintenance Technicians with routine maintenance, repairs, and troubleshooting of production equipment and facility systems
• Perform basic mechanical repairs and adjustments under the direction of maintenance personnel
• Assist with preventative maintenance activities, inspections, and equipment servicing
• Help identify and report equipment problems, unusual noises, leaks, or other conditions that may require repair
• Assist with the installation, removal, and adjustment of machinery, equipment, and components
• Use basic hand and power tools safely and properly
• Assist with repairs to hoses, water lines, faucets, valves, and other facility equipment
• Help maintain and repair production area equipment and support systems
• Assist with cleaning and maintaining machinery and maintenance work areas
• Keep tools, equipment, and maintenance supplies organized and properly stored
• Respond to maintenance requests and work orders as directed
• Assist with maintaining accurate maintenance records and documentation
• Follow all company safety procedures, including proper lockout/tagout procedures when applicable and as trained
• Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), food safety, sanitation, and facility requirements
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment
• Work closely with Production and Quality Assurance teams to minimize equipment downtime
• Perform other maintenance and facility duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

• Previous experience in manufacturing, maintenance, construction, mechanical work, or a related hands-on environment preferred
• Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot simple equipment issues
• Familiarity with basic hand and power tools
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
• Ability to learn and perform preventative maintenance procedures
• Basic understanding of mechanical equipment, pumps, motors, hoses, valves, and other industrial components preferred
• Previous food manufacturing or industrial production experience is a plus
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to workplace safety
• Reliable with a strong work ethic and willingness to learn
• Good communication and teamwork skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a maintenance team
• Must be comfortable working around dust, heat, production equipment, and industrial machinery

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift
• Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, climb, reach, and work in awkward positions
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
• Ability to work around moving machinery and industrial equipment
• Ability to work in hot, dusty, and fast-paced manufacturing environments
• Ability to safely use ladders and access elevated areas as required
• Ability to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as production demands require
