POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Facilities Supervisor, the Plant Maintenance Technician is responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of manufacturing equipment and facility systems. This role performs routine inspections, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems to minimize downtime and support continuous production.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on production machinery, utilities, and facility equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and PLC-related issues.
  • Respond to equipment breakdowns to minimize production downtime.
  • Inspect, adjust, and replace defective parts such as bearings, motors, belts, pumps, valves, sensors, and gearboxes.
  • Maintain and repair building systems including HVAC, lighting, plumbing, and compressed air.
  • Read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Install and commission new equipment or upgrades as needed.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance logs, work orders, and parts inventory.
  • Follow safety procedures and support OSHA, plant, and environmental standards.
  • Collaborate with operators and production supervisors to improve equipment reliability.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to reduce downtime and increase efficiency.

Educational Requirements: 

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical school or apprenticeship preferred.
  • 2–5 years of industrial maintenance experience (manufacturing, food processing, chemical, automotive, etc.).
  • Experience with mechanical, electrical, and troubleshooting work.

Skills: 

  • Strong understanding of motors, drives, PLCs, sensors, conveyors, pumps, and industrial controls.
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings and electrical schematics.
  • Proficiency with hand tools, welding, fabrication, and machining (optional depending on facility).
  • Basic computer skills for maintenance systems (CMMS).
  • Strong problem-solving and communication abilities.

Work Environment

  • Industrial manufacturing or processing environment.
  • Requires standing, lifting (up to 50 lbs), climbing ladders, and working in tight spaces.
  • May involve overtime, weekends, and on-call rotation.

Typical Certifications (Optional)

  • OSHA 10/30
  • Electrical or mechanical certification
  • Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) training
  • Forklift/Scissor lift certification
  • HVAC or refrigeration license (facility-specific)

Communication Skills: Fluent in English with good verbal and written communication skills

Physical Requirements: Heavy lifting and prolonged standing is required. Walking, climbing, reaching, bending, kneeling, pushing and pulling are required in this position.
